I want to point out something that slipped under the radar.

It sounds like the Kelvin Films are now "Acceptable Star Trek" according to Old-Schoolers. The line keeps inching forward.

Oh yeah, it's like how Enterprise is the totally uncontroversial now.

Give it a decade and people will be pining for the hard sci-fi of spore drives and Tardigrades.

TOS only lasted 3 years and spawned multiple follow-up shows.

DISCOVERY lasted 5 years and did the same.

    How is that a failure?

    Because Wokeism. Or Biden.

Knowing some of these people, probably both.

    Hahahaha...

    ...oh, wait, you're serious? :vulcan:

Ok, jokes aside but Kelvinverse was not "always acceptable" not to the vast majority of Trek fans I interacted with. More casual audience goers, people like my mom and my wife, absolutely loved it and appreciated it and the references to TOS that they were familiar with, while enjoying the 21st century style and better graphics. Yes, that matters. However, Trek fans that I encountered, especially online, treated it as "heresy, a crime against Trek," and my personal favorite "Star Wars in Star Trek clothes."

Acceptable? Yeah, not by a long shot.

I stepped down as a moderator during the lead-up to the 2009 Film. I was a moderator in the Kelvin Forum, I issued seven warnings in one day and decided, "Fuck this! I'm done."

So, I'm on the fence. One day, when someone's like, "DSC was always accepted!", should I correct them or keep my mouth shut? First World problems.

Five seasons isn't a failure. The use of "STD" should be banned from the board, IMO

 (I've been to Mostar btw, amazing place)

I guess there are structural similarities, but the tone, continuity, writing style and organic evolution are all different. It would be like saying ENT was DS9 with a retro skin.

I guess for me I may not like them, but at least do appreciate that they set up the Abramsverse to avoid most of the continuity snafus. Although losing Spock and Romulas wasn't exactly the original continuity getting away painlessly either.

At least we can be grateful JJ Abrams and company didn't succeed in their aim to suppress everything from 1966-2005 so they could do all the merchandising.

Maybe I would have gotten more Kelvin content if he had.

Hardly. Like it or not (and you clearly don't) everything else in modern Trek owes its existence to Disco, season 1 specifically. It's because enough people watched season 1 for it to be considered a hit that convinced CBS there was an audience for a TNG revival about Picard's retirement days, an audience an animated sitcom about Starfleet's less prestigious side, and an animated Voyager sequel aimed at kids. And if it weren't for Disco S1, there would be no season 2 to introduce Anson Mount as Captain Pike and lead to a spin-off about his time commanding the Enterprise.

Without the "failed experiment" as you called it, you would not be able to watch Picard's third season memberberry extravaganza you so clearly enjoy.

People don't think Discovery as a one and done wouldn't produce a cornucopia of Trek content?

When I say that Kelvinverse was always acceptable I can't speak in the name of other people. I can speak only in my own name. I'm an individual, and I'm not part of some big group with same opinion. Ok, I'm an old ST fan but that's it.

I really like and really enjoy Strange New Worlds, Picard season 3 and Lower Decks. When I watch thoose three shows of so called New Trek I fell happiness and joy.

Let's go further. I'm 100% ok with Prodigy but I'm not enjoying it. When we talk about STD i really hate it, unrelated to what was born from it and what was not.

Maybe as a forums member and a ST fan more than 21 year I have some rights to tell my opinion about STD. For me it's a complete low-quality garbage. I didn't enjoy not for even second of that show. I forced myself to watch it just to be up to date about Star Trek Universe, but I stopped at the half of season 4. Even thoose episodes I watched it was with rewind and skip.

My opionion about STD is shared among huge number of fans in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, that I'm aware of it. But it doesn't metter. 1.000.000 of fans can have their own positive opinion about STD, I can have the other one and I would not change it.

If I'm narrow minded bcs I can't accept KlingOrcs, all the time crying people, amusment park in ship's center, stupid story about destructed warp capability and million other things of STD - ok I have narrow mind. End of story.

Voyager lasted 7 years and was tradional Trek, the fact ST:D lasted only 5 seasons in a politcal climate that favored it is very telling.
