Jeri Ryan was already on record as being thrilled about her new costume in comparison to the old one - hardly surprising, really! Also interesting: When she said she was glad she didn't have to wear her catsuit again (she called it space suit), Jeri raising her hands and clapping.
I just can't help but love the fact that the usage of 'fuck' makes a series unsuitable for children and childish at the same time.
.
Nope. It was used perfectly natural to the situation. Its usage in Discovery was childish.
I would have loved to be in the room when Chabon was explaining why using the word fuck was necessary to Patrick Stewart.
I doubt he needed to explain anything. If it was there, it was because Stewart didn't mind/care.

Picard swears in French? OK.
Data says "Oh, shit!" OK.
Characters saying fucking in similar ways to how I use it in my life? Apparently not OK.![]()
Yes, I can be that obtuse. But, in this specific instance I don't care what ratings boards say. Data's "Oh Shit" was more off putting than the f word in Discovery or Picard. You can't be that obtuse. There are varying levels of swearing, shit gets you one rating, fuck gets you another in most ratings boards.

This is very true. I freely acknowledge that my engagement with the characters is far more important than what swear words they use. So, yeah, engagement is making all the difference here.Whether it be "fuck" or the turbolift funhouse, I think the criticisms come down to how engaged one is with the story they are telling.
The pearl clutchers probably complained too loudly.and then never heard again in two seasons
Most of the swearing in Trek has been barely registering. Picard's "Not good enough, damn it, not good enough" is probably the most off putting followed by Data's "Oh, shit."
You're conflating terms. I didn't say "worse;" I said "off-putting" as in it didn't feel like it fit in the story, didn't feel like a natural way to phrase it. It stood out to me, felt unpleasant in context, and took me out of the story, far more than "fucking cool" every did.You think "damn it" is worse than "shut the fuck up"? Genuinely?
How about the 2 GOD DAMNs I mentioned earlier from 30 years ago..........They're all just FUCKING WORDS. You're using that as a crutch. If you don't like MT that's fine, but own it and stop blaming "dirty words". This discussion has happened before when it aired and at least 4 times since. Let's find something NEW and pointless to bicker about shall we?You think "damn it" is worse than "shut the fuck up"? Genuinely?
Neither are bad. They are just words. They only have the power that you personally give them. You think "damn it" is worse than "shut the fuck up"? Genuinely?
