Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Just got throw in one other thing, then I'm done. One of my favorite scenes from Star Trek IV, when I was a kid, was when the punker gave Kirk and Spock the finger.

Sorry, but saying "fuck" isn't much different from flipping the bird.
Swearing in has always been what they could get away with. Same with sex. This is Trek in the 21st century. It isn't for the faint of heart or resistant to change

Don't be silly: the whole point of TV is babysitting.
Very respectfully, it's the parents' job to raise the kids. Not the TV.

And if they need a babysitter, they get a real babysitter. I used to be babysat when I was little when my parents went out without me. I later babysat kids sometimes myself. That's how it's done.

When I did babysit, I tried to engage with the kids. Interact with them. Try to have fun. Come up with things for them to do. Plopping them in front of a TV is the lazy way of doing things. Extremely lazy.

Very respectfully...I was joking.

Slight tangent.

I think it's amazing how many kids these days are involved in after-school activities. Way more than when I went to school. I'm guessing it has to do with both parents working full-time jobs.

It's a good thing because of the realities of today. And with the sports/athletics, it gets kids physically active. When I was a kid, I went outside all the time. Now I think they're more connected to electronics than ever, so you'll end up with a lot more kids who are out of shape.

Pokemon Go is a good hybrid. It lets them move around while playing their game.

I am getting more interested in VR and the like to support more interactivity. It is a struggle, especially right now.

For all the pearl clutchers.......I guess you had NO problem with this 30 years ago:

Kirk : Damn it Spock! God damn it!

Spock : Captain, what have I done?

Kirk : What you've done is betray every man on this ship!

Spock : Worse I've betrayed you. I do not expect you to forgive me.

Kirk : Forgive you? I oughta knock you on your goddamned ass!
Some people would flip out over that particular one long before they would over the word fuck.
