If Maddox is recast... then why have original Bruce Maddox at all? Why not have Bruce die on Mars during synth attack... but you see, he had this brother... Dave... with whom he shared all his research? Dave is played by a different actor and is continuing synth research on Freecloud. Do we even need Bruce if it's not the same actor?

Maddox appeared in one episode 30 years ago. Brian Brophy has no acting roles of note since then (he is listed as an extra for the Adam Sandler film 'The waterboy' for instance) and hasn't had an acting role since 2014. Maddox's connection to data aside, Brian Brophy's performance in 'The Measure of a Man' wasn't that great and I think the showrunners would want a stronger actor with more experience. It's not the first time a trek role has been recast, so what is the issue exactly?

My preference is always to bring back the original actor when possible. But recasting it isn't going to make or break the story.

Who knows, perhaps the actual actor had some reason for not wanting to do it or the contracts couldn't be worked out.

Whatever it is, I'll just consider it as another Alley/Curtis type of thing.

I certainly hope it's the original actor from MEASURE OF A MAN.

We're honestly not sure, but one of the BBS members recently met with the original actor and asked, but didn't get a definitive answer that would please many of us here.

My guess is that They got a new Actor to play the part.

They really shouldn’t have stated that was Vasquez Rocks. Keep the location a mystery
