We still don’t know what happened to Marie Picard. This would be technically her house, not Jean-Luc’s

Bit late to the party but pretty happy with this episode for three reasons.

1) Season 1 was crying out for more StarFleet, which has already been fixed for me. I get Stewart didn't want to cut about in a uniform again but I think they found a good balance of involving SF without needlessly firing a uniform onto him.

2) Seeing the different refits of classic starship designs. Didn't necessarily care for the sharper edges on the likes of the Nebula-class or Galaxy-class redesigns, but a hell of an improvement on the C+P Inquiry class from S1. It was also pretty cool to see a Sovereign-class, even if it was only for a split second.

3) That ending. Perfect setup for episode 2. I especially liked the CGI render of original Q since Q wouldn't age naturally.

For me they're off to a better start to this season than season one.

I never really felt that needed an explanation. After losing her husband and son in horrific circumstances, I guess she might have wanted to move on.

I have the image of Picard getting over his abrupt exit from Starfleet through his determination to revive Chateau Picard after that tragedy. That fits with what we saw in season one.

I don't know if it needed an explanation, because frankly I don't know how many audience members are going to care about what happened to an obscure character who only appeared in one episode. But for those audience members who do care, some explanation would have been nice, even if it had only been something like, "She continued to run the vineyard but found the house contained too many painful memories of her lost husband and son, so she moved to a house closer to the village."

Hopefully we'll get such a line at some point so we an all sleep soundly - 19 episodes to go!

Bruce Maddox made a comeback after all.

I didn't read 53 pages of posts, so if there are duplicate comments, that's why.

The entire cast nails every scene they are in. Patrick Stewart can still deliver those big speeches. Santiago Cabrera as Rios, makes a plausible return to Starfleet and his stumbling Emmett helping Seven was one of my favourite scenes. The scene with Stewart & Goldberg felt like they hadn't missed a step from the TNG days. Jeri Ryan finds the right balance between the Voyager Seven & this older Seven like she did in season one. You can see those same arguments about the Borg with Janeway.

One of few concerns is that Elnor is going to be misused/under-utilized once again this season. His whole character seems to be the "muscle" for this crew.

Part of me also wonders how Rios' Stargazer crew feels about him. I'm sure his history is undoubtedly public knowledge and he is hanging onto his cigar on the bridge. On the other hand, his first officer is tossing him his lighter.

Given the history that both of them had with the Queen, I'm surprised that there wasn't a moment for either Picard or Seven to comment on that.

It seems kind of silly to put enough Borg tech into your ship that they can use it to take over your ship in a matter of minutes.

The Q de-aging was done amazingly well, considering how poorly it was done to Brent Spiner last year.

Is the writing on Picard just that much better than the writing on Discovery?
