How many times did the holograms destroy a planet? How many times have we had Trek characters plead for the computer to end program when a hologram goes bad? And it fails. I lost count.

What can I say, I'm a masochist at heart. You know, once I started using the Ignore function here heavily, the forums are a much better place for me, except a few times it's hard to understand what's going on![]()

I would be fine with "security clearance" revoked, but the episode goes on to say specifically "fired." Maybe I'm misremembering, but that doesn't seem to be subject to interpretation.
No. It is from the Countdown comic.
In my mind, a better choice would have been either she quits in solidarity, but then her post-Starfleet life sucks, so she can still be bitter at Picard. Or she has her clearance revoked, her career path derailed and rides a desk for five years until she either quits herself or gets fired due to drugs or poor performance or whatever. She still blames Picard.
Very true. I don't think how Musiker's backstory and introduction was handled was particularly great, but it is really a minor blemish. Besides, as we know that she is a series regular, they can and probably will go in greater detail later. There are much, much larger examples of bad writing littered throughout the franchise. If this is bad writing, it is a blip in the context of the larger Trek universe.
I'm pretty sure in voyager a hologram destroyed an entire starship crew. He could have then used that starship to destroy a planet until the doctor stopped him. https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Revulsion_(episode)How many times did the holograms destroy a planet?
This (and anything else on your list!) would have been totally fine. Instead, the episode says, "Starfleet fired me because they were mad at you." Which is silly.
How many times did the holograms destroy a planet?
She is a bit of a mess but no doubt she will recover in time. That is her interpretation of events. A drug addict who is mad at someone from her past.
Yeah so that would potentially include EMH's.To the general public that Starfleet and the Federation government serve, an AI is an AI.
Other than Picard being an Admiral, none of what you said is canon![]()
Doesn't make it canon at the slightest. No, it was in Picard Countdown, which was written by Kirsten Beyer, a co-creator of Picard and member of the writing staff.
Is it though?
...
So yeah, it can be considered canon.
Although co-writer Mike Johnson considered Countdown to be canon, Orci stated he was in no position to declare whether it was, though he felt it could be considered canon unless it was contradicted in a later film or TV episode. [8] He later implied it wasn't canon before stating, with encouragement from the interviewer, that it was. [9] [10]
- Portions of Countdown would later be confirmed as non-canon with the release of Star Trek: Picard which directly contradicted several elements of the comic (the most notable being that Data's memories and personality did not eventually emerge in B-4, the transfer instead failing leading to B-4 being dismantled). Some elements however, were seemingly retained and possibly inspired by the comic, such as the idea of a Romulan faction utilizing Borg technology in the aftermath of Romulus' destruction.
You simply do not understand what canon means. So yeah, it can be considered canon.
Is it though?
“From the moment we announced this series we’ve seen a groundswell of support from our fan base who are thrilled to have Jean-Luc Picard back on their screens,” said Veronica Hart, EVP Global Franchise Management. “Having this brand new original backstory play out through both comic book and novel formats will set the stage for the new series in an exciting way while also showcasing the work of our talented partners at Simon & Schuster and IDW.” That's from an official CBS rep.
We shall see, if the ship is referenced in Picard then its canon and that will create some unhappy campers on the forum, then again there are always unhappy campers on the forum so never mind.Is it though?

Just a passionate group of folks here. Pissing off each other for decades now.![]()
Star Wars handles this by declaring books, games, comics and other explanatory works canon (which can be revoked at will as seen in the great EU purge of 2014, but still). Star Trek doesn't have this option really due to its stated noncanon status of all tie ins.Yep. Which is why I always laugh when people demand that TPTB "listen to the fans" or "give the fans what they want," as though we always speak with one voice and want the same things.
We never agree on anything--as this board proves everyday!
We also tend to send mixed messages, as in:
"Too many infodumps! Too much exposition!"
But also: "Why haven't they mentioned Lal? Or Beverly? Or Picard's sister-in-law? Or The Dominion War? Or Voyager? Or given us a fuller explanation of this or that plot point?"
We can't insist on everything being spelled out for us right away and complain about too much exposition.![]()
That is also a fair approach as we know Raffi is canon and she is in it plus the situation and timescales match. There are things contradicted from season to season in Star Trek, on screen, that just means canon has changed. So yeah, we could consider Countdown canon for now, until something else comes along and changes it.
You don't want to fine, go ahead, but considering that CBS has stated that it's part of the Picard story, I'll consider it canon.... for now.
