Maybe ‘Vadic’ is an anagram of another character’s name from TNG, or a ‘code name’ that a previous character has taken on to hide their true identity. Perhaps Vadic is not even the main villain? :shrug:

The name Vadic is similar to the word ‘Vedic’. Vedic Sanskrit is the language that the ancient Indian texts the Vedas are written in. Some of those deal with revenge…

I’m still disappointed that this character is not portrayed by Joanna Lumley, but oh well.

I would imagine that part of the appeal of the villain is how they hadn't had access for whatever reason, perhaps due to being imprisoned or away unable to exact their moment of revenge until this moment.

I dunno, it'd be hard to take Armus seriously after he was pranked called by Mariner...

Anyway, going with the Armus shapeshifter idea: it gives the nod to Tasha Yar more relevance. Perhaps he even shifts to her / Denise Crosby for a cameo to taunt Picard?
