Star Trek: Phase II (the original)

Not so.

STD is waving every bit of TOS-related stuff that they're adding to the show, elevating it in publicity materials above most of the stuff and characters that are returning from the first season. Pike! Enterprise! Spock!

A lot of this might not even be in the show, were it not for the problems the first season had.

May have nothing to do with what the actual episodes are like, which is not my point. CBS is trying to differentiate season 2 from season 1 for the people interested in Trek who disliked the first year and passed on it. They figure the way to do that is to sell it as the second coming of old favorites.

re Discovery: They were pandering from Day One with the centrality of the overused overwrought Klingons. This is more of the same just on steroids. Greatest hits. Meh.

Now back to Star Trek [Phase] II.
If they consider a spin off Pike show as viable, who knows how they might view Phase II in 5 years time.

Yes, plot wise, it is "look a t all the overt TOS elements we have! Spock! Pike! Sarek! Enterprise!

[Jeb Bush voice:] "Please watch."

I digress. Phase II. With good writing it would have been glorious. Plush loveseats, bodysuits and helmet haircuts. I'm picturing Buck Rogers on NBC. Biddi biddi biddi

I'm doing a Phase II story featuring Twiki and I'm not even joking.

Oh, it would be fun. STD is now completely reliant upon the reuse of TOS-derived elements to generate publicity interest for the series, and at least "Xon" would fill that bill for some hardcore fans without in fact being a revisiting of material that was filmed or mentioned previously.

I'm not fond of calling it "reliant", since all Star Trek is reliant on what came before it to some degree. TOS relied on its own pilot to pad out a first season, TNG relied on P2 scripts not to mention the uniforms and general design aesthetic especially for older ships, and pretty much everything after up til Enterprise relied on TNG. It really isn't new.

TWOK was reliant on Khan. Which is appropriate, because Khan was on Reliant in TWOK. :p :D ;)

Well, what do you expect? The original ideas for STD suck.

What are they going to advertise? Burnham! Mushroom Drive! KlingOrcs!

I wonder if the upcoming IDW TOS final year comic will bring in elements of Phase II, such as Xon, Lt-commander Decker, CPO Rand, and a few more alien crew? The fan shows and New Visions photo stories wove in a few elements here and there, such Chekov being assigned to security.

Not Phase II discussion, but I think DISCO works better with Burnham in a second officer role and not the captain. I think they need to bring in a kick-ass actor to be the new captain for the rest of the series. Maybe Lord Garth, Master of the Universe. :shifty:

Seems like they got a decent one, but boxed themselves into a corner with the Prime non-sense.

Someone has an invitation to a delta ray party on a J-class cruiser in the near future.

Don't tempt them!!! If they get the go ahead to use Pike in his own series and it's popular then The Menagerie will never happen and that'll be more proof that DSC is an alternate reality! :bolian:

Did the Kelvin even t already occur by DSC? So alt Pike (Greenwood) is now alive and going in that Timeline?

2. Either way this Pike has a bunch of time before the radiation and boop chair, yes? I'm bad with time.

Depends when Kirk takes command of the Enterprise. We're in 2258(?) in Discovery. Maybe four or five years at most.

People assume that time is a strict progression from cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it’s more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff.

2258; Kirk takes over in 226? 5 or 6?

So, time for a spin-off. I hope it's episodic. :)
