Star Trek: Phase II (the original)

Sorry about no images. Just pic of Bobby and Pete. No big deal.
Ah, working now...at least on my desktop (I was looking at my laptop earlier).

David Cassidy is hardly who I'd consider "lead" material in a one-hour SF drama. After all the Decker character was designed as an eventual replacement for Kirk and Shatner. But YMMV.
Well, wasn't Kirk was supposed to have been the youngest Starship captain? If so, you'd think a typical XO would be maybe 30ish at least.

The biggest loss of Phase II is not getting to see Kirk command the Enterprise from a comfy sofa.

(The sofa was actually made and appeared as set dressing in the movies and early Next Gen episodes)

Would he have said "I miss my old chair"? That thing really looks closer to what Picard got to use.

I wonder if it is a recliner. Where was it used specifically? I'd like to see the real item.

I just did a google on "1970's chairs" for fun. A sad thing is that I actually sat in a lot of those chairs. :(

God, I hope not. There's already a silliness to how many TOS elements are in the show.

Oh, it would be fun. STD is now completely reliant upon the reuse of TOS-derived elements to generate publicity interest for the series, and at least "Xon" would fill that bill for some hardcore fans without in fact being a revisiting of material that was filmed or mentioned previously.

If you create new characters for a given episode you do not lose all the rights to them. In fact, if the show re-uses said characters without you, you get paid. This is to protect writers from having their creations re-used without compensation. It's why any time the Guardian of Forever gets used or made into an ornament they have to cough up money to Ellison/his estate. It's also why you get Tom Paris instead of Nick Locarno.

It's one reason that Mirasta Yale didn't become a recurring character replacing WIl Wheaton on TNG - and possibly why Nick Locarno became Tom Paris.

There's enough room on that command chair for Kirk and two Yeomen. :p:cool::luvlove:

You beat me to it, as that ain't no chair - it's a love seat! And probably in leather too... Though in 1976, Roddenberry was boasting of continuing to objectify people as sex objects and would include men... and as the test footage hinted at, combined with that old phrase, "We ain't seen nuttin' yet", viewers were dodged a much larger proverbial bullet thanks to "Star Wars" and Trek having a new live as a film series, as ideally nobody should have been objectified?)

I'm not fond of calling it "reliant", since all Star Trek is reliant on what came before it to some degree. TOS relied on its own pilot to pad out a first season, TNG relied on P2 scripts not to mention the uniforms and general design aesthetic especially for older ships, and pretty much everything after up til Enterprise relied on TNG. It really isn't new.
