STAR TREK: PHASE II "The Child" Teaser Sneak Peek

I think you are correct, my Andorian friend. Good call. It kind of looks like the glowing circle she had on her neck in the film once she became part of V'Ger. The site I found this picture on said it was discovered in the back of an old hardware store.

The first place I go looking for obscure Star Trek memorabilia... the local hardware store.

I've going about this all wrong for all of these years!!!!

Yancy
You know what smacks fake about that? Where's the toy company name on the box?
Exactly. I'm calling it Photoshop parody.

I will have to call BS on this toy as well. I have been collecting Trek for 40 years, and I have never seen this before. I hope to be proven wrong!
That settles it for me!
Now, I was thinking...
wouldn't it be interesting if somebody started a new thread featuring fake 'Spock schlock,' as an old MAD magazine parody once referred to the legit merchandising.
This would be perfect for 'FredCFO' from the old Exeter forum. Where is he? I miss him.
BUT....this could get way out of hand.
So....I'm not even gonna mention it

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!
Fred, you have been missed!
BTW, I'm working on a couple of product parodies I hope to post soon.

I thought the teaser was interesting and very good. The CGI looked great too. It was nice to get close ups of the old girl too.

Seems a cut — whether rough or not I don't know — of act one has been posted on youtube.

On the minus side of Act 1:
  • The line "immaculate conception after a three day pregnancy" at about 4:35 is wrong on several levels. In the first place, conception occurs before pregnancy. In the second place, in Catholicism, "Immaculate" refers to sinless and not fatherless. See, for example, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immaculate_Conception#Immaculate_conception_and_virginal_conception, for discussion of this all too common error.
  • I wouldn't have a problem with the darkness of the bridge, if I could actually see what was happening.
On the plus side:
  • My inner nerd likes that Chekov is in a red shirt now.
  • I really like the final scene, with mother speaking to child in voice-over while outside the Enteprise observing the alien craft. Seems to suggest that the aliens in the craft are aware of whats happening with the child.
Will keep watching. :)

And here I thought that female Deltans were all bald like Ilia in ST:TMP. Oh, well.

Deltans were bald.

Not according to Jon Povill, the man who invented the race. He specifically stated, repeatedly, "Not ALL Deltans are bald!!" In fact, a few times he added: "and who says Ilia was bald?" As they are a people that value physical as well as emotional contact with others above all else it is possible that a shaved head is her stylistic choice that "allows more touchable surface" LOL. He didn't say that was the case, he did propose it as a possibility. For whatever their own reasons, there are Humans now that similarly shave their heads.

The "she is wearing a wig" is the production's answer to people's complaints about the hair - but it wasn't Povill's. I actually like Povill's answer, because I am personally sick of science fiction visiting planets where everyone looks the blasted same. Perish the thought that the Earth should ever suffer that fate!

Funny, because the Phase II Writers/Directors Guide says of Ilia and Deltans:
Her face is breathtakingly beautiful. But like all Deltans, she is completely hairless except for the eyes.
Jokes about "the hairy eyeball" aside, it appears that regardless of what Povill wanted, back when Phase II was in prep Gene clearly intended hairlessness to be a trait of all members of the Deltan species.

Jon Povill actually wrote the P2 writers/directors guide. He didn't remember much of it and when I pointed that out to him he gave me a look that requires a caption contest to describe it. Guess he re-thought it since then.

It's a shame we've not heard more from Mr. Povill over the years. What little I've seen/read in relation to Star Ttrek has been very interesting. He should be encouraged to write a memoir of his experiences or perhaps a Trek novel.

He actually told me he'd be interested in going to conventions to talk to fans - as he's the last guy around that worked side by side with Gene on so much. When I checked around though, there weren't any conventions interested. Maybe if people asked for him....

That surprises me a bit. I would have thought there would be more people interested in what Mr. Povill might have to say. Not only did he have a close connection to Roddenberry (from what I've read), but I'd think he's got some unique perspective on the road Trek took from TV to the movie screen.

Has he ever mentioned why he wasn't involved with TNG (beyond the use of "The Child")? Given the connection between PhaseII, TMP and TNG, I would have thought he'd have been involved.

I think there are plenty of PEOPLE that are interested. There just isn't any con organizers willing to pay the airfare and hotel for Jon to come and do so.
