STAR TREK: PHASE II "The Child" Teaser Sneak Peek

And the Klingon heads in STIII looks just as rubbery/fake.

I thought the ST III Klingon foreheads were excellent, and had great variety. Joins were well hidden by wigs and eyebrows.

The TMP, ST V and ST VI were quite disappointing and "assembly line" prosthetics in comparison.

Bald caps are trickier than some might think. It can often look really bad on an actor, and the last thing a filmmaker wants is something that looks unnatural.
And Klingon foreheads look natural?

There are lots of ways they could have handled it: a baldcap with a headband thing as seen in TMP, or something. It's not THAT hard to do well.

It isn't that Klingon foreheads look natural (they don't... lol...). But with bald caps, it is much easier to see the seams. Especially in the wrong lighting. You need to have a really good makeup artist to make sure that the cap looks right. They tend to be very uncomfortable for actors; especially if you are a woman with a lot of hair underneath. In TMP, the actress actually shaved her head for the role.

As for the head band, they actually sold one for girls back in the 70s.

I think you are correct, my Andorian friend. Good call. It kind of looks like the glowing circle she had on her neck in the film once she became part of V'Ger. The site I found this picture on said it was discovered in the back of an old hardware store.

The first place I go looking for obscure Star Trek memorabilia... the local hardware store.

I've going about this all wrong for all of these years!!!!

It is funny where you find old Star Trek stuff sometimes. I saw a boxed puzzle set from Star Trek III: The Search for Spock at a drugstore in Toronto a few weeks ago. I'm guessing it had been on that shelf for years.

You know what smacks fake about that? Where's the toy company name on the box?

I don't think it's real, either. I mean, what possibly could a kid do with this? The whole point of the similar Barbie head is to style (and eventually cut off) her hair.

Also -- were there ever any Star Trek toys from this era (or any era) that were marketed to girls?

I have to admit, I'm not too crazy about the "Scotty's sleeping one off" gag...just seems a bit much......I'd have rather he'd had some tech manuals laid out instead of the booze...

It could be a fake. I have no idea. The website I found it on is listed on the picture.

I will have to call BS on this toy as well. I have been collecting Trek for 40 years, and I have never seen this before. I hope to be proven wrong!

...or the doughnuts.
I also have to join the chorus critical with the uncharacteristic stupidity shown by both Kirk and Sulu.
Sulu knows better, and if Kirk has a legitimate beef with Deltans, then a) why are there any on his ship and b) it has to be spelled out in the story.

Well I finally watched the Teaser. I really only had two beefs:

1) Scotty sleeping with his bottle... maybe a bit much.

2) Ensign Bernstein (also known as Commander Sulu as played by Woody Allen in Kevin Pollack's brilliant skit "Star Trek V: The Search for Cash) must go. I mean he really sound like Woody Allen complete with his neurotic whine: "Ahhhh, ummmmm maybe we should wake the uuuummmm Captain..."

I was fully expecting him to break into Pollack shtick:

"Ummmmmm, I wasn't built for space... ahhhhh I think I put that on my resume somewhere."

"I know you're an extremely busy man Captain ummmm so I won't bother you with my personal problems..."

I know. The Ilia head image looks like CG and if it were an actual product photo I would have to say that was the most realistic looking dress up head doll for the era. Also notice the old school Battlestar Galactica font spelling Ilia's name.

But it's a cool idea nontheless.

Just remember we've only seen a small part of the episode, and perhaps these things will be explained later on.

As for Scotty, I thought it was nice NOT to have him studying manauals for a change. We all know the chief engineer has a fondness for alcoholic beverages, so it didn't seem too much of a stretch there.

I agree that Sulu made a big mistake regarding the nebula. Hopefully, he'll learn something about that during this storyline.

I have to agree so far that Kirk's comments regarding Deltans did seem out of character. Again, we may find that explained later on in the episode.

As for the Deltan hurrying past Kirk and Chekov, she realizes she's pregnant and is in a hurry to speak with the person best capable of helping her, Doctor McCoy! I might not be a female, but I can understand that the strange circumstances may have rattled her somewhat.

Just my thoughts on the teaser.

Scotty has certainly been known to enjoy his recreational spirits and to on occasion suffer the ill effects of shore leave. Honestly, the idea that he might have a few too many in his off hours while enjoying the latest issue of Nacelles Monthly, doesn't particularly bother me. Your mileage may vary. :)

I did find Sulu a bit laissez faire, but would refrain from judgement until seeing the entire thing in context.
