Star Trek passings

Lora Johnson, best known to Trek fans as the author of the seminal Mr Scott's Guide to the Enterprise, has passed, aged 64.

Lovely tribute from Larry.

Id rather rewatch an episode

Antony Acker passed away in September, age of 80. Not only a background actor but he played a Vulcan advisor in two seasons of 'Enterprise' and two seasons of Voyager.

One actor I missed back in January of '24 was August Amarino, age of 83, who appeared as the UFP Federation Advisor in ST VI, the Undiscovered Country.

She wrote some really good episodes. I'm going to have to put a couple on this weekend in her memory.

In fact tonight, I'm putting on "Night Terrors". (She co-wrote the teleplay, and it IS a great creepy episode. It's on the Halloween time watchlist for my wife and I.)

Very sad. I thought she brought a lot of humanity to TNG, and stands out as one of the very few women writers involved in the franchise at that time.

Obviously she will be remembered for co-creating Voyager and establishing Janeway, and her two books about the Voyager crew's back stories are great.

I remember Ron Moore commenting how embarrassed all the TNG writers were when one of the first things Taylor pointed out was that TNG lacked any female authority figures. It's why they began having Crusher and Deanna take command of the bridge and led to the creation of Admiral Nechayev.

RIP Jeri. After looking up her credits, I have watched with enjoyment literally every show she has helped produce. (I was small when I watched Blue Thunder OK)

As I said in the thread in the Voyager forum, Jeri Taylor is responsible for creating some of my favorite things in Star Trek, some of them already listed by others here in this thread. I will forever appreciate how what she wrote and thought up brought me countless hours of enjoyment, gave me food for thought and shaped my childhood. Was just randomly watching the excellent Voyager episode “Night” yesterday, unaware that she had passed. It’s from the final year of the show she produced and I wonder what influence she had on that particular story.

Anyway, I spent some time today creating a custom animated avatar in her memory. May she rest in peace. :(
