Ah, yes, Star Trek Online... it's such a mixed bag. In one hand, it's Trek. On the other hand, it's not. Trek that isn't like Trek... what a mess. Shoot first, ask questions later, endless amount of combat, no diplomacy or really any choices you can make. Kinda sucks in that regard. There's some very nice missions, but also a lot of the new lore seems to disregard stuff established in the series. Literally everyone is attacking the Federation all of a sudden, which is kinda overt. Also both the Borg and Species 8472 are quite weak in the game. Sad, but not surprising.
Well, aside from that, it's a bit repetitive, and lacks content at the moment. I played to maximum rank in just a bit over two weeks, at which point there was nothing to do, so I haven't really played since.
Space combat was enjoyable, but ground combat is mostly endured rather than enjoyed. Of course the repetitiveness didn't do any favours for either style of combat.
There's some nice ships, but I just wish the lower rank ships were upgradeable. I don't really like any of the escorts other than the Akira (well, mine is Akira for the two front parts, Oslo for the rear), but it's completely obsolete as Admiral. Then there's the Intrepid, which is my favorite ship in the game. I also like the Miranda-class starter ship (ShirKahr with a Centaur saucer, actually), but as with the Akira, it's not really usable later on

Incidentally, my skills are mostly for escorts, but quite a bit of skills for the Intrepid as well.
I have a 60-day game card sitting on my desk. But I think I'll have to wait for several "45-day content updates" before it makes sense to use it. Hopefully, the new content will be good. I really want to like the game, but so far it's indeed a mixed bag.
Oh, and a tip for those worrying about "loot". Don't. You'll be getting more Energy credits than you can possibly use in a sane manner (I've bought the Intrepid and Runabout with credits for example, yet I still have like 800k credits unused) so you can buy stuff from the Exchange if you feel you need something. Also the missions are overly easy, so you can pretty much equip whatever and be fine 99% of the time. Exploration is an easy source of loot, but I'd recommend putting those off for the most part until you reach Captain, since you'll tire of the repetitive missions quite quickly (they're similar regardless of rank - repetitiveness strikes again), yet Captain-grade loot is still useful as Admiral as well.
