It's been established in another topic that LD can't use Harry Kim...
Really? When did this happen? I don't remember reading about that stipulation at all. Was it a Prodigy thing (had they continued)? They already had Tom Paris and Tuvok (albeit the latter without dialogue) on LDS, not to mention the recent "Voyager Deep Cuts" holo-characters. And nearly all of them appeared in the LDS tablet game (although, yeah, not Kim for some reason). WTF is that about, anyway? :wtf:

Harry basically "belongs" to Prodigy. So until and unless the show is pronounced dead, a character assigned to it can't be used elsewhere. And they may be in negotiations to revive it for some time.

The only reason they couldn't use Harry on Picard was because showing him alive and well in 2401 would pretty much make it clear he's in no danger on Prodigy, set in the mid 2380s. Such concern would be a non-issue for Lower Decks, which is set prior to Prodigy. It was for a similar reason they weren't allowed to have Janeway appear on Picard, though they mentioned her a dozen times throughout the third season anyway, thus making it clear she won't die in Prodigy anyway, but whatevs.

^ I thought they wanted to have Janeway on PIC (it would have been her, and not Tuvok, who promotes Seven to Captain at the end of the final episode) but they just couldn't afford Kate Mulgrew.

I mean, as much as we all loved seeing Tuvok again, it seems clear that it should have been a senior flag officer (such as Janeway) promoting Seven. Especially since Riker mentions "...to the very highest", regarding Starfleet officers who were replaced by Changelings.

As for Harry, what's this about him being "assigned" to Prodigy? I'm not aware of him ever actually appearing on the show.

No it was definitely because Prodigy. The thing about not being able to afford actors was was a vague comment from Matalas about "there are many more I wanted, but we were on a budget."

Garrett Wang claims to be in the second season.

New Civilizations mod for Stellaris has already added the new Romulan ship haha

But he wasn't.
The second season hasn't even aired...

It hasn't aired yet, so how can you know?

Oh, right, I still had this mental image of the second half of the first season actually being the second season because of the long gap in between airings.

Hell, are we EVER going to see the actual second season of PRO? :(

I doubt anything particularly bad could happen to Kim on Prodigy, it is a kids’ show after all, and Garrett would have done Picard for scale, so affordability likely wasn’t an issue.

I’m more inclined to believe that Matalas just didn’t want to use Kim in a glorified cameo that probably wouldn’t add anything of value to the show.

Well, if you believe Garrett Wang's version of events he was supposed to be part of a three episode story arc. Scripts were written and sent to him and he and his agent had a meeting to discuss salary until Paramount stepped in and told Matalas Harry wasn't allowed to be in the show because of Prodigy.

Besides, glorified cameo that didn't add anything of value to the show is basically what
Tuvok was. And Shelby.

Did he say that? I just heard he was associated with the show, but he didn't say which season he was supposed to turn up in.

If he's in S2, then that changes quite a few things. That season, after all, is likely to be aired somewhere. And Harry will have a canonical rank and assignment. LD will have to operate within that.

In a realistic world, he probably would be just a JG. With seven years as an ensign and that (undeserved) reprimand around his neck like an anchor, he wouldn't climb very far or very fast.

he did? I guess that explains why the cancelled the series: they can’t have ensign Harry show up as a Lt or whatever after all!
