Spoilers Star Trek: Lower Decks 1x02 - "Envoys"

[Capt. James T(roll) Kirk]

IMHO, even if Discovery did a good job on their Andorians, the best Andorian makeup design is still the one from Enterprise. Can't beat moving antennae and Jeff Combs.

EDIT: The worst is the one we saw on The Next Generation, by the way.

[Romulan_spy]

In the previews we've seen Mariner …

Spoiler: A future episode

… in a gold uniform playing poker with the senior officers. This might be a flashback to how her last demotion went down. Or maybe not.

That scene looks like a clear reference to the poker games in TNG. The doc is even wearing the shades like Data wore.

With conveniently hidden pins it's hard to say XD

[Tuskin38]

regarding the Andorian makeup, there a BTS picture from Picard where they have a picture of the DSC Andorian makeup pinned up in the makeup area, so they might have been considering it.

DSC Season 3 is still using the Season 1 and 2 makeup, we can see it in the trailers.

... a Galaxy Quest version of Star Trek...

How meta.

As much as I love the character, I don't remember him ever showing humility or acknowledging he caused the problem.

"A Private Little War"

[Turtletrekker]

A couple other random thoughts.

• Why did the guy in sick bay say "thank god" at the end? He was Bajoran, shouldn't he thank the Prophets? One of the few slip ups.

This goes back to at least DS9 "The Alternate":...

It actually goes all the way back to "Emissary" when Kira referred to DS9 as a "god-forsaken station".

"A Private Little War"

Which is weird, because it wasn’t an issue he created.

I missed this TV series. Kirk more often than not, went in and broke the Prime Directive and reset societies to something he was more in-line with his values. As much as I love the character, I don't remember him ever showing humility or acknowledging he caused the problem.

I think it depends on the episode. Kirk certainly demonstrated a capability of being self-reflective and humble, at times. I think one of the better moments was in "Conscience of the King" were McCoy challenges his pursuit of Karidan as being motivated by revenge and not justice. But, Kirk more often than not was more than able to swagger off to the next adventure with a smile so yeah him being humble was a rare treat.

And, I think that comes with his years of experience and dealing with some serious traumas. Mariner has obviously not dealt with them. I mean, I see a lot of Kirk traits in Mariner that are just unrestrained at this point because Mariner has to push everything away in an effort to protect herself from past issues and pains.

Reminds me of Kirk from ST 09 strangely.

What bothers me the most now is that Section 31 went from being top secret to being official and widely known, then back to top

secret again, and then back to widely known again.
Blame "Discovery" - Enterprise and DS9 had a logical consistency - 31 was a secret organization until Bashir revealed them to a vast swath of Starfleet command and apparently regular officers too. Discovery screwed with it for the "cool factor", but didn't pull it off.

Um...no...Blame DS9 - because I guess you don't realize the show is set AFTER Bashir revealed the existence of Section 31 to Starfleet in general. It's 2380 - One year after the events of Star Trek Nemesis. (BTW - In ENT, Reed pretty quickly revealed the existence of Section 31 to Archer when pressed - and Harris (the then head of Section 31) had no issue revealing himself of the organization to Archer directly; and cited Section 31 of the Starfleet charter.)

Trek doesn't have a good track record with its "love letters."

ST: D's S2 episode - "If Memory Serves" would disagree with you.

It was never shown or hinted at that he completely exposed them.

[fireproof78]

I see no reason to assume he didn't.

[Lord Garth]

Nope

Boimler. His name is Boimler.

If you don't learn Boimler's name because Boimler's name is peppered all over this thread, then you're not learning Boimler's name on purpose. That's a shitty shtick, but stick with the shtick if you wish.

Boimler.

The title of ep 3 is "Temporal Edict", so the screenshot of Mariner wearing gold and playing cards with the senior staff might be an alternate timeline?

[Trekker4747]

That or I have a brain tumor that's pressing on the language center if my brain meaning spelling and remembering words is a challenge for me and it's an unusual, uncommon, name that I've never seen before so it's going to come out how it's going to come out.

That would be great! I enjoy seeing main characters is department colors different from their usual one. And alternate timelines.

[Trekker4747]

You mean “love letters” like “Relics”, “Trials and Tribble-ations” or the fourth season of Enterprise, which have been hugely unpopular with fans and critics?

I speak of things specifically called "love letters" like the series finale of Enterprise.

[The Old Mixer]

Which is weird, because it wasn’t an issue he created.

But he regretted the need to contribute to and escalate it.

That was a called a "Valentine to the fans."

[Ometiklan]

So anyone have any ideas on what the Janeway Protocol might be?

Uh, that makes no sense. First of all, of course I know that LDS is set after DS9. Second, how can you blame DS9? I guess you don't realize that ENT and DIS were filmed after DS9?
