I don't see people brushing off injuries as incompetent. A bit of a trope, stupid definitely, but not incompetent.

Being a Commander (and XO), he should know that he could be putting the entire crew in danger by waving it off. For me, that is incompetence.

Regarding "maturity" - keep in mind that the ensigns are probably in their early 20s, with Mariner most likely a bit older as she has served on multiple ships and been demoted. 20somethings can be immature, particularly if they don't have any kids of their own. And I don't even think any of them - except for Mariner - seem particularly immature, insofar as they are taking their jobs far more seriously than most people I know took their jobs at that age.

As for the bridge crew, again I'm not seeing much. The captain seems pretty straight-ahead, other than perhaps not recognizing the contributions the ensigns make (but then, what Star Trek captain has?) The first offer seems a bit broish and full of himself, but he doesn't seem incompetent. The Chief of Security is trigger-happy, but so was Worf. The Chief Medical officer is pretty explicitly modeled on Pulaski.
Mariner is definitely a weak point and a problematic character I think. It would be easier if she weren't in Starfleet the way similar characters, like Quark, weren't. The others are more or less fine.

It's a bit of a trope. Character X brings Y on board unknowingly. Bad stuff follows.

This man agrees with your assessment.

OK, I watched the Second contact... For the second time. With my dad, that is. And the same thing like with Discovery episodes. He liked it much more than I did and it even grew on me a little more. Maybe he should overtake my account. Or maybe I should be isolated from TrekBBS for two weeks after the premiere.

The characters are wild and eccentric, but they are experts in their fields. That's the only thing that matters for Starfleet. One person I could not imagine serving in Starfleet or even passing the Academy is Mr. Bean (imagine that XD), and we're far away from that ;)

Ex Astris Scientia, which in general hasn't pulled punches on New Trek criticism, has a lot of guest reviews praising Lower Decks: https://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/episodes/low1g.htm (Bernd himself, the runner of the site, hasn't seen it yet due to lack of international distribution for the show)

I find this fairly amusing, since the main difference between DIS & PIC on one hand and LD on the other, besides LD being a sitcom, is that LD just has a lighter tone. LD's characters are no less flawed than DIS's and PIC's, but because it has a lighter tone a lot of people aren't reacting to it by calling it "dystopian."
