Not to mention Every other episode of Enterprise and Troi commenting on Picard fondling the Pheonix is STFC.

RAMA

Picard walking around with a Risian fertility totem.

Kirk remarking on the "delight" aspects of the Eymorgs.

Mudd lusting over some android replicas.

And, of course, the rather phallic shaped rock.

Star Trek is not always high brow.

"Out of place." For what? A job site? I've heard worse from my counselor colleagues, all with graduate level degrees or higher.

he difference between New Trek series and Old Trek series is that we now have a much better sense of what Pop Culture and Slang will endure and what won't.

I'd say we think we have a better sense

Cool goes back longer than that. First used by jazz musicians in the 20s, it really started to catch on in the 30s. The 50s may have been when more white people were using it, but it was around longer.

One source I found has "Cool" going back to the 1700s. The phrase "cool as cucumber" is found in a poem. Not quite the same usage, but still slang.

The link between cool as in "unflappable" and cool as "fashionable" is extremely tight. Things done and liked by the unflappable become fashionable.

Finally watched it last night - it was enjoyable in a parodyish kind of way. Not a Trek to take seriously, but looks like it will be worth a few chuckles, and I am surprisingly interested in a few of the characters.

The Zap Branniganesque Captain of the USS Doritos is a hoot.

It is so obvious

Watching the show, was very excited to watch the premiere. Great animation, OK intro, bland music. Five minutes in, and grown men and women acting like elementary schoolers. What the hell?

Love Discovery, Short Treks, and Picard. What happened here?

The ship is huge, why are they sleeping in the hallway bunks?

I'd be curious whether that battle between the Borg and the Romulans in the opening theme song is now canon and will demand its own memory alpha entry. :rommie:

Q or Q Jr. might actually be a good idea to have show up for the show just for some complete nonsensical Q pranks.

I see comments on youtube of people who say that lower decks is against gene's vision !! and they say that we would never see a fleet officer be a drunk! those people never saw ToS! Scotty was a drunk and that was a joke!

Yeah, Scotty had a problem. It was very noticeable when he took the Klingon nerve agent to mix with Scotch in “The Tholian Web”.

I didn’t notice anyone acting like elementary school students. Care to elaborate?

Literally everything said and done by everyone.

I think the show is intended to be lighthearted, silly, and somewhat of a tongue-in-cheek poke at Trek tropes and fandom.

It's not supposed to be Star Trek's version of Clone Wars.
I expected comedy, not childish hyper craziness. If this were about a civilian ship, I'd be more open to the style of humor.
