Re: Star Trek III: Would you have offered a hand to Kruge on the ledge
Taking a life is a big deal. If one were to take these posts anywhere close to seriously, then a lot of you seem to have no problems with the notion of killing someone. Removing the whole "you know what I'd do?" fantasy, I wonder how many really could go that far. Killing for revenge is not something I subscribe to. Self-defense, and/or protecting my family from harm, I could see, if that were the only way to stop the guy. If I could just kick his ass and immobilize him, I'd do that, but killing a man would stay with me forever. I don't even like putting my dog to sleep.
To actually answer the original post, I might not be heroic or honorable enough to give him a hand, but I wouldn't kick him off either. However, I could see myself standing there as he fell, not doing anything to stop it. Kind of bland for the climax of a film, though.
I do love the look on Shatner's face when Kruge grabs his leg and starts pulling him down. It's really one of "I can't believe this jackass." Kicking Kruge away was a left saving measure, so it doesn't color Kirk's character. What bugged me about the Abrams film, though, was that Kirk blowing Nero to hell was unnecessary. Nero was about to be crushed by the singularity anyway. Blowing him away was nasty overkill.
