Star Trek Discovery on Netflix

That and "Blue Bloods" and I'm in the same boat :)

If I recall correctly, as I'm not currently subscribed but it's 6 for ads, 10 for no ads.

Yeah Blue Bloods is on the list as well, good show. And yeah its about 6, which is not bad really for all the shows you get, but I find it high for ads.

Because the ads likely subsidize what would be a much more expensive service without them.
Yeah, I get this. I dont like it, even if I understand it. As I stated, its not a,deal breaker and no where as bad as some make it out to be.

However, would it kill them to put em in the normal spots?

While the specs have not been released for ST DSC this is good news from Netflix. While I cannot see CBSAA updating their app to provide Dolby Atmos I can see Netflix rolling this out in 2018 and offering it to foreign markets and maybe DSC will be already mixed in 7.1.4 Atmos as a requirement in the deliverables for Netflix?

Following video-focused work centered on 4K and High Dynamic Range, Netflix said it is expanding into immersive, theater-quality audio with support for Dolby Atmos
Netflix said streaming for the audio format is supported now on the Xbox One and Xbox One S (when linked to a Dolby Atmos-enabled home theater system, TV, soundbar or specialized headphones), with support for 2017 LG OLED TVs “coming soon.”

Dolby Atmos
A 7.1.4 speaker configuration system uses four ceiling speakers, or four Dolby Atmos enabled speakers or modules.

Cable has been doing it for years. I rememebr when cable started one of the selling points was you'd pay for the channels for commercals wouldn't be needed. That didn't last long
Same thing with magazines, newspapers and the like. It's nothing new...period.

That doesn't mean that people have to like it.

The deception "Oh, cable will be ad-free." Just because 99% of people knew that was B.S. before it even started, doesn't make it okay that the public at large was lied to.

Is anyone saying you have to like it? I would like it if people would just give me gas for free. But, what I like, and how business works are two different things.

Secondly, that analogy doesn't fit because I don't believe anyone has been lied to regarding AA.

For the foreign territory viewers (non-USA or Canada) a couple questions if you watch in 4k UHD:
If you pay for the Netflix tier of 4k UHD is this DSC show in 4k UHD?
Is it sharp like other proper 4k UHD TV original Netflix series?
Does it seem like an upconvert from 1080p?
Are the promos for future episodes also in 4k UHD?

There was one small lie about All Access, a white lie, or at least I felt misleaded, and found it very distasteful.

They announced that they would air the premiere/pilot episode on Network TV. I was quite happy about this. I would get to see the first episode before deciding on whether or not to subscribe.

Then, they aired only half of the first episode. It wasn't even a cliff hanger. It just ended mid scene. No credits, no previews. It simply went to commercial. After commercial break, NCIS was on. I thought I accidently switched the channel. During the next commercial break was an ad to sign up for All Access.

Very distasteful...

(I realize many here would, and did sign up for AA on principle, but I am not that way. I ended up signing up for the 7 day trial, and canceled it right away. I think it ended today. I'm still torn on whether or not to subscribe)

And then you could pay for HBO, Showtime, etc and have Premium Cable channels with no ads. I'm curious. I haven't had cable or HBO in over ten years, do they have ads now?

I saw the TV broadcast, after the fade out from the first episode, there was a commercial that said something about the story continuing on CBS All Access. They did show the first episode. The second episode is considered a separate episode with a different title, director, etc.

The thread title says „Star Trek Discovery on Netflix“!

Don’t we have enough threads to beat up CBS & AllAccess?

On topic: I have the Netflix 4K tier, DSC comes in HDR but not in 4K.
