I didn't find it weird. I loved Adira and Gray. They are nice additions to the cast.

Fair enough. Adira I like, Gray is only in for only one reason I won't get into but maybe they'll make his character worthwhile like they kind of did with Culber.

I was speaking more about Stamets and Culber adopting them though

What is weird about two gay men adopting an LGBTI teenager, exactly?

Nothing?

It's just a weird storyline thing that came out of nowhere. It felt so forced, like a lot of things on the show imo.
What's forced about it? Specifics.

A gay couple wants to have a child. This teenager doesn't have parents. It's as simple as 2+2. You don't need to be spoon-fed the story in Sesame Street style.

Adira has an instant bond with Stamets right from their first appearance, whether you want to see it or not. He looked out for them, when he figured out they were trying to stall things for the EDF on Discovery.

It just sort of happens, with almost zero build up or explanation. They have a scene about pronouns one minute, and then a couple of episodes later, Stamets and Culber have adopted them.

Do Stamets and Culber want to have a child? Did we know that? Genuine question. I just find it a really weird development tbh, but a lot of the writing on this show I find pretty silly at best, laughable at worst.

Technically we don't know, but most couples do want to have kids. So I personally don't think it's much of a leap.

I don't want kids. I have great respect for parents and what they have deal with and go through. I couldn't do it. But even I know that most people do want to have kids.

She's part of the United Earth defense forces of the late 32nd century, isn't she? I don't think she formally joined Starfleet did she?

The end of the season Adira is wearing a starfleet uniform with the rank of ensign. And it's they, not she.

This is just not accurate. Adira spends the majority of their time with Stamets and there are multiple instances of them bonding. Stamets and Culber both explain why they quickly attach themselves to Adira, because Adira has no family and the only person they considered family is dead. Stamets and Culber both know what that feels like, Stamets in particular, so it's natural that they would want this 16 year old kid to not have to go through the same thing. It's not rocket science, Adira literally has no one on the ship. I mean Adira bonds with Burnham too, but I'm sure if Burnham had decided to adopt Adira, there would be criticism over that as well.

And of course the two gays adopting the non-binary kid is a 'weird development'

You mean a xenophobic culture wouldn't jump at the chance at drafting recently orphaned aliens as child soldiers?

(I rather gather Admiral Tal had created such a good impression on Earth that him resleeving had little impact on his career as such - even though the ultraconservative USDF had to reduce his rank to match her new body.)

yeah, and immediately send them to inspect an alien ship.

Not to mention that the whole business about their rescue is a total mess best not thought about.

I already told you that my observation had nothing to do with that, there's no need to look for offence. There's enough outrage in the world as is without the fabricated, unnecessary kind.

I think the swiftness of it happening without much of an explanation made it feel forced, just like crewmembers always saying how much they love each other every five minutes.
