She was commissioned in 2257 and made the jump in 2258. She's been an officer for a year. She was a cadet in Season One.You do realize that it's been almost four years since she was in the Academy right?
(notwithstanding the jump in time)

I stand corrected on the timeline. She was commissioned in 2257 and made the jump in 2258. She's been an officer for a year. She was a cadet in Season One.
It's all good, Stamets used mycelial spores to infect the brains of said crew, causing them all to cheer Tilly on to be promoted over them.Tilly is not just being offered a promotion, she's being jumped over the rest of the crew, and being made their direct supervisor.
Which as far as we've been shown, has been completely addressed by that entire conversation in the spore room between her and the bridge crew.
I think folks who object really need to take into account the fact that this has been described by the characters themselves as being her "audition" toward her stated goal of eventually being a Starship Captain.
I think too that one needs to take into account the circumstances the Discovery Crew find themselves in.
It's not like she can now follow the normal process that would have likely been in place before they jumped to the future.
But, there's still the fact that everyone who could have been a candidate, has no problem with her being allowed the chance to give it a try.
I think it's a combination of Cabin Fever due to Covid-19 and people getting sick of certain things (no matter which side you're on) after three years. I've tried not to post too much today because getting into the thick of it all wasn't something I wanted to do on Thanksgiving. Is it me or do folks around here seem a bit more on edge with this season of "DISCOVERY"?
There seems to be a lot more discussion lately in which folks are taking posts personally and snapping back, rather than letting things slide.
Maybe it's just me noticing it more.![]()
Spock was mentioned in both.I don't remember seeing Nimoy in Voyager or in Picard, to be honest.
Not only is Nimoy not in Picard, Spock isn't even mentioned which is very glaring considering his importance in the Romulan supernova incident everyone in the show is talking about.
Because you don't like the writers decision, isn't a valid reason why Tilly shouldn't be given a chance to try. That's only because the writers wrote them that way dude. I mean, you can of course argue that within canon. But the reason people have an issue with this is it's an immersion-breaking decision. It means you can "see the stitches" of the show and not be fully engaged with the story.

Dude, look up what it means to be an XO in all branches of the military. In many cases (infrequently in the navy), it would be a job for a junior officer.Dude, this isn't, like, being made assistant manager at a Best Buy.
No. The valid reason is it - to any rational and objective observer - an act of overt negligence on Saru's part.Because you don't like the writers decision, isn't a valid reason why Tilly shouldn't be given a chance to try.

There are certainly those who should have evaluated Tilly preparedness, and in truth, the XO would probably be someone assigned from outside Discovery by Starfleet. Nonetheless, the ranks of the other officers aboard Discovery do not accord them any special privileges when it comes to determining who would become the executive officer. And as a corps of professionals, the crew would accept her rather than throw tantrums. The primary issue is Tilly - manifestly - does not have "the right stuff." She might have it in another two seasons, but she doesn't now.
What kind of input immediately crashes Windows?Well, it’s easier to get Windows to crash than that, actually.
She was also raised by Sarek and graduated from the VSA.Generally I can get by, but for some reason this episode just rubbed me wrong. Why would the Vulcans care about her and her connection to Spock?
Cause the timeline changed. She apparently sat around on lifeless Essof IV until *SNAP* everything was changed and there was life again cause the sphere data left the past. How would she know that anything has changed? Why not? Burnham was expecting to find her, just not on Ni'var.

I've noticed a lot more snippy overreactions lately as well, and I myself also get more annoyed more quickly. I'm sure it's the combined stress of lockdowns, uncertain future, political insanity, and a reaction to other people's similarly increasing behaviors.I think it's a combination of Cabin Fever due to Covid-19 and people getting sick of certain things (no matter which side you're on) after three years. The political crisis with the burn and them leaving the Federation only happened ~100 years before.I think this is one of the things I'm struggling with. The timing of everything feels urgent, even though a lot of time has passed. It happened with Unification, and it's happening with The Burn. I'm starting to wonder if going 930 years into the future was a good idea. Maybe it should have only been 800 or 700 years.
Wait a minute, I read a fitting response here, lemme see...:Imagine lying on the OR table with all your guts hanging out when the attending puts her scalpel through her hand. And then, in a room full of residents, the chief turns and points to the intern to sew you up on the grounds she got good grades in school.
Have any other false equivalency whataboutisms you care to share with the group?
I do think Saru simply figured Tilly can't be worse than BurnhamActing or not Saru really can’t be wrong on ANOTHER first officer. He seemed to already be on thin ice with Vance after last week. Another poor personal choice and Vance may decide Saru isn’t ready and put a new Captain on Discovery with Saru as XO.
They can simply have two openings instead of two nacelles. But it also works just fine for the guy on reddit who has 2, apparentlyI never did mention where Work put his "second nacelle" when he was mating with another species.
But i guess it explains why Dax had a thing for Klingons
Michael will prove that Ni’Var did not cause the Burn, do something heroic that shows the Federation is worth saving and give an inspirational speech that convinces everyone to rejoin the Federation.
I was expecting that.Couldn't the Vulcans just mind meld with Burnham to discover if she is sincere?
Seems unlikely, since the Vulcans came to Earth and not the other way around. As for the name of the planet...that probably was a human imposition from day one, right?
