Just watched it a second time, and am on the verge of a 10, so well did the production, direction, scoring and acting mesh. The story was really nothing groundbreaking, since the whole non-binary/trans aspect was couched in terms of Trill, a device used with Dax in DS9 as an allegory for lesbianism. But the execution of said story was extremely well done in my opinion, and the Adira/Grey dynamic worked exceedingly well.
Loved Culber's voiceover at the start accompanied by a money shot of the ship and nice piano work. Not sure about his foray into psychology given he's a physician, but I'll chalk it up to him being smart.
Loved the computer/data dump merger; brought to mind that scene where the computer called Kirk "darling" and he threatened to fix it (or something like that).
Georgeau has been wearing a bit thin, and although I like her interaction with LInus, this time during the Buster Keaton hologram movie scene, and taking the wine from the table, I hope they give her something more substantial to do soon... she's too cookie cutter now.
Loved the fishbird, white eyeballs, upside down submersion, and evaporating ghost scenes to name but a few "special effects".
The only thing keeping me teetering on a 9 is why didn't they have a warning system or deflector shield to defend against flying meteors or debris in the distant future?
