I think a case can be made that some technological inventions are abandoned or stalled for various reasons, despite how great they would otherwise be. There are probably real-world instances of that sort of thing. So I assume transwarp beaming made no progress at all in a thousand years?
Charlemagne wanted to re-create the Roman Empire, but the Holy Roman Empire was a new state is what happens over time. That is not always the case and isn't applied consistently. There are some facets that are a part of the framing device.
That said, since the Federation isn't gone completely I think it is possible, however unlikely, that people would hold on that and want to see it return, and there is the possibility. How it plays out remains to be seen but certainly is something I can accept as a narrative.
Mileage will vary.
Almost all the characters in the 1977 Star Wars movie were acting like they'd never seen a Jedi or knew about the Old Republic and yet when the timeline came out it showed practically everyone in that film except Luke and Leia were old enough to take part in the old Republic and lived when Jedi were around, even Han.
Since I'm not expecting the Federation to be exactly recreated I'm still not seeing the issue.Charlemagne wanted to re-create the Roman Empire, but the Holy Roman Empire was a new state is what happens over time.
Scotty invented it in the prime timeline, told it to Spock, who brought it over to the Kelvin timeline.Alternate universe tech.
I would prefer that they create a state called the Republic of Plants and that includes something of the territory of which it was once the federation. The Romulan free state is no longer the Romulan empire in the 25th century and does not comprise all the territory that the empire once had and other successors exist as the homeworld of Elnor.Since I'm not expecting the Federation to be exactly recreated I'm still not seeing the issue.
That makes sense, though I am probably to assume it was meant as "Planets" and not "Plants" though I'm all for a Republic of Plants, and welcome our new plant overlordsI would prefer that they create a state called the Republic of Plants and that includes something of the territory of which it was once the federation. Chewie, the oldest character in the film, mocking Obi-Wan on the Death Star (although we don't know exactly what he said) hasn't aged well at all especially in light of the revelation he fought alongside the Jedi during the Clone Wars. That is completely untrue. The only person who doesn't know about the Jedi is Luke, which is necessary for exposition and fits with his backstory of growing up on a backwater planet.
But he certainly had heard of the Clone Wars and had a strong opinion about the Empire (meaning he was very likely familiar with/aware of what preceded it.)
Han was familiar with the concept of the Force (and, arguably, the Jedi), he just didn't put any stock into it.
The Imperial officers in the briefing also knew about the "ancient religion" of the Force, but were similarly dismissive of it.
There's zero to suggest anyone in the original SW was ignorant about the Republic or galactic history. Nothing at all. Except Luke not knowing about the Force/Jedi. And he's the exception, not the rule.

We've all done it.

I would like there to be a successor state that basically includes the coalition of planets, the territories of union earth, Vulcan High Command, Tellar Primer and andorian empire. all these planets are relatively close enough to be united in a single state! could be called union of systemsTrue. When Charlemagne was being coronated by the Pope, the Byzantines were all like: "WTF? We're still here!"
When Michael inevitably restores the Federation, the Andorian-Orion Alliance thingy might be like, "Wait, aren't we the Federation?"
Did we get a good look at Book's ship or the name of it? Despite the shapechanging console gimmick, it "feels" more primitive than La Sirena from Picard even though it should be 800 years more advanced (probably because we don't see any fancy holographic helpers here).
That means they'd have to talk about Earth's status in the 32nd century. And I'm not sure they will talk about Earth. They might go back to the TOS style of things where Earth was unnecessarily mysterious and never mentioned.ok the federation no longer exists but what about starfleet? Let's remember that starfleet existed before the federation as a union earth institution. Suppose the successor state to the federation that controls the land may still have starfleet and if starfleet exists there must be section 31!
earth was the capital of the federation if you want to recreate the federation you have to regain control over earth. That means they'd have to talk about Earth's status in the 32nd century. And I'm not sure they will talk about Earth. They might go back to the TOS style of things where Earth was unnecessarily mysterious and never mentioned.
We might see it (it should be around by Picard), but in the Kelvin movies I took it as a bit dangerous. Hard to get a precise read on a specific spot light-years away; thus Scotty beaming into the pipe. Scotty did say "The notion of transwarp beaming is like, trying to hit a bullet with a smaller bullet whilst wearing a blindfold, riding a horse," albeit before he received the formula. So I assume transwarp beaming made no progress at all in a thousand years?
