Wow. I'm not sure if I can add much to the discussion. Lots of great comments and thoughts about this one. It was a fantastic episode. It was well paced, moved along the plot, had some really beautifully acted emotional character beats and something magical too. Hard to define. Just that feeling when everything comes together and makes an episode special.

IMO, this is going to be the standard for a DSC must-watch episode going forward. 10/10

I'm glad Culber's issues are being explored and that they also acknowledged that Tyler is actually in a similar predicament on some levels. My hope is that Paul gives Hugh the space he needs to rediscover who he is and perhaps we'll get to see them eventually fall in love all over again. But this needs to be a slow burn.

Discovery is clearly in the prime universe, but the question is whether the timeline we know and love happened with or without Red Angel intervention.

If it happened without Red Angel intervention, it means Michael Burnham died as a child, and anything she does in the story possibly changes the future. Which not only has far reaching implications, it implies the Red Angel saved Michael Burnham specifically because it thought she would do something to achieve its positive or negative ends, that did not originally happen.

Would Romjin have any interest, though? Sure, it would likely be the steadiest work she could ever hope for...and yet...?

That's a very interesting theory. makes me wonder if Pike's injury suffered in "the Menagerie" maybe a result of the Discovery's crew "futzing" with the timeline.

I've been thinking that for a couple of weeks now. Whoever it is has Majel's cadence down pat. The only way they could have done better is if they got Rebecca Romijn to be the voice of the computer. ;)
That would go with novel canon since there they mention that her voice was used for Starfleet’s computer.

- A great follow-up to "The Cage". And they left enough for future installments before "The Menagerie" if need be.

- Oh yeah and Vina was quite a pleasant surprise. I recognized the actress but couldn't place her. I had to pause the show to look her up and saw that it was Melissa George. Another name actress. Maybe we will see more of Talos IV at some point.

- I also recognized the doc that visited Spock but couldn't place her either. Then I saw "Alisen Down" in the credits.

The B plot is kinda dragging the episode. I am much more interested in Spock and Michael on Talos IV.
I felt the same way. It did feel a bit jarring to cut away to Culber but they had to address his issues. And the episode title could relate to this side plot as well.

Not disagreeing, but Kirk & Joan Collins?
Nope.

Because when you get right down to it, Kirk and Edith's romance was pretty benign and vanilla. There wasn't anything particularly special about it. The courtship itself could have just as easily been shown through a montage set to Louis Armstrong. The real beauty in City is in the tragedy that comes after the romance.

Pike and Vina's romance, however, was forged through their shared horror and would-be demise.
