Spoilers Star Trek: Discovery 2x03 - "Point of Light"

Amanda is right. She was a bad mother, apparently to both of them if her reaction to Michael is any indication. She seems to run hot and cold. A confused, frightened, angry little girl runs away from them after terrorists try to kill her and then says something mean to her foster brother because she thinks the terrorists might try to kill him too. She then tries to turn herself into as perfect a Vulcan as a human child can be and suppresses her emotions, probably to try to keep herself safe and to please Sarek. Spock also suppresses his emotions and turns remote. And Amanda, who clearly knew better, let it happen and lets her very screwed up husband make them both sociological experiments. I still wonder how they ended up raising Michael and who thought it was a good idea.

The Sarek family dynamics are, dare I say... fascinating. We are learning more about who these characters are than we ever did on TOS.

I didn't think that ep was good at all. Overall plot....half human/ half Klingon ex Starfleet officer and Klingon chancellor discover they had a son together, that was hidden from them. Former Empress from another universe, at the direction of super secret Starfleet organization, intercedes into Klingon politics, and removes half human/Klingon and son from Empire. Just rereading what I wrote....I would not promote to friends. Sigh.

Yeah, but a lot of people seem to disagree. And I'm glad. This was a great episode of DSC being DSC.

I'll give this one an 8. I liked it and it was mostly "world building" and setting stuff up for later. I do like we see the Klingon Empire we all know taking shape and I loved seeing section 31's hand in it.

That’s my theory, but I doubt we’ll ever find out for sure unless their is a time skip.

I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on the story. Section 31 has never been depicted as being the good guys in any situation. But they are an established part of the canon that hasn't been truly explored. It's one thing to say that Section 31 is immoral in the abstract, it's another thing to show us why. Their story has never been told from their perspective. We have never seen what makes them do what they do. We've never seen what they see or know what they know. I may not agree with their methods, but I certainly believe that there are good Star Trek stories to be told about them. It's all in the ultimate execution of the story.

Still processing my thoughts -- right now, I've given it a 7 because it felt a little disjointed to me. (For context, I gave "Brother" a 10 and "New Eden" an 8.)

I loved all the Michael and Amanda interaction up until the very end. How they parted was weird.

Tilly's friend was charming last episode, then became creepy this time around.

The Klingon storyline was actually interesting to me this time around. It was OK during Season 1 and I found their appearance distracting initially before I sucked it up, but I definitely liked that part of the episode. I didn't mind L'Rell's fake out.

Not sure how I feel about Section 31 yet, but it was cool seeing Michelle again! I bet part of why they're using Mirror Georgiou as more of a main character is they can showcase her martial arts expertise more -- they even gave a nod to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon with her quip about security!

Finally, Spock didn't kill anyone. It's all a set up!

Just my initial impressions. Interesting to see how the episode's scores are shaping up. I predict they'll be all over the place.
