Star Trek Dioramas, Anyone?

I just finished my TOS enterprise model, and a klingon BOP (TOS style) is coming soon..... I was thinking of posing them together to make a diorama, and casting acrylic with LEDs to make phasers. I would then print out a starfield and place lights behind it. What do you guys think? Has anyone does this before? Any tips?

Sounds like a fun idea, to me! If you've got some orange/red LEDs, how about using them to light up cotton wool balls for explosions after the phaser strikes? It might look like fire and escaping gas? Or it might look like the ship had been dipped in candyfloss...
