Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Most Underappreciated Episode

My choice is "To The Death". It's my second favourite episode and my favourite 'normal' episode because my favourite is the rather gimmicky "Trials and Tribble-ations".

In the past, people have argued against my claim that it's one of the best episodes because it gives all of the main cast a chance to shine, since Kira and Quark aren't around. I don't really mind since Kira is my least favourite member of that cast. :nyah:

What I love most in Star Trek is great dialogue, whether it's in speeches or entertaining conversations, and this episode has plenty of both, either with the main characters talking amongst themselves or speaking with guest characters.

The conversations Weyoun has with Sisko and Odo, along with the talk between Miles & Jadzia are some of the most simultaneously thoughtful, eloquent, and emotionally satisfying ones in the series, and the interactions that Worf and Jadzia have with Jem'Hadar soldiers are hilarious...until their leader ruthlessly kills the arrogant smug soldier who kept trying to pick a fight with Worf.

That's just an example of how this episode does both comedy and seriousness well, though. O'Brien's pre-battle speech mocking the Jem'Hadar leader's speech is gold too. This episode has just about everything I love in Star Trek. Rousing action, juicy dialog, and a solid balance between endearing humour and riveting drama.

DS9 has tons of vastly underappreciated episodes, especially:

Body Parts
Business as Usual
Crossfire
Statistical Probabilities
Shadowplay
Life Support
The Begotten
The Abandoned
Bar Association
Honor Among Thieves
Inquisition
Chimera

Have to mention "Civil Defense" and "The Ascent" as well. Marc Alaimo was at his best in the former.

I'll also agree with "Move Along Home." Seriously, it's one of my favorite DS9 episodes. I'd love more first contact-style episodes like this one (and see the Wadi appear again).

"Q-Less" isn't liked my too many, IIRC, and it's one of my favorite Q episodes this side of "Q Who?" I honestly prefer it to episodes like "True Q" or "Tapestry."

"Paradise" is another one I enjoy. The very end is kind of off-putting, but it's an entertaining episode. Again, I'd have liked more DS9 off-station adventure episodes like this one.

Is "Civil Defense" under-appreciated? I always liked that one. Good station jeopardy episode.

I also find "Fascination" to be a hilarious and fun little romp.

"Cardassians" and "Whispers". These second-season episodes are excellent examples of the fantastic writing and compelling stories that hooked me on the series. "Cardassians" showed an important side to the post-occupation situation between Bajor and Cardassia regarding war orphans. It also helped to add depth to the Cardassians. "Whispers" kept me on the edge of my seat, guessing all the way to the end. It was after this episode that I thought to myself, this Trek is a different ball game. It was also the episode that made me an O'Brien fan.

What comes to my mind.

Move along home isn't that bad, its not great, but its ten times better then say, Meridian.
Armageddon Game is quite good, and never metioned from season 2
Followed by Whispers, which still gets me loving DS9
Season 3 has Civil Defense, which gives tension and laughter as well.
Starship down is a fun episode that does not get too much credit.
The Ascent is just pure gold.
Not sure if it popular, but who morns for Morn always is entertaining.
and I think I am the only person who likes "Prodigal daughter" and "Field of fire."
