"Star Trek D.A.C."

So, in the gaming forum, apparently nobody knows of the official movie game or doesn't care, so I'd like to open discussion about Star Trek DAC, the new video game, here. (It is related to STXI, after all.)

It was released for download yesterday on XBox Live. Has anybody tried it yet?

While it's a relatively simple game, flying around shooting enemies (Federation or Romulan) in one of three ship classes, it was surprisingly fun. I played match after match not realizing it had already gotten dark outside. The game features Giacchino's original score to great effect, some nicely designed, if busy, background graphics inspired by the film - you can fight in orbit of Vulcan for example. And since the Narada was a bit too huge to be the Romulan equivalent of the Enterprise in this one, they came up with three new Romulan ship designs based on the Narada, it appears which should be interesting to look at for the Trek Tech fans.

So, has anyone played yet? Any first impressions?

I'd like to know the classes of these ships and whether or not they look anything like the ones in this thread - might give us a clue as to their class names, perhaps.

(not a gamer, so don't know how much canon-abiding effort the game constructors go to when making their games)

Well, the two new Starfleet ships in this don't look like anything I saw in the movie, but they fit the general design very well. One is called "Defender" anyway. I will have to look closer next time I play.

I played the demo yesterday. It's nice that they incorporated Giacchino's original score, but apart from that I didn't find it particularly entertaining. I know it's supposed to be a simple arcade shooter, but after some minutes I lost interest, to be honest. The graphics don't look too bad (especially the Enterprise and Vulcan in the background), but are lacking in detail. At least that was my impression. I thought it was a little cheap. But then again, what does one expect from an arcade shooter?

And what the hell does D.A.C. stand for?

D - Deathmatch
A - Assault
C - Conquest

The three game modes. And yes, I agree that it is very simple, very arcade-y. I would've preferred an actual game based on the film. How awesome would a first-person shooter/adventure have been? Something like Fallout 3 in the Star Trek universe... But imagine something like this might be on the way someday. DAC, I suppose was designed as a fun little distraction. Which it is.

No, I think not. I remember hearing that it would be released on PS3 later this month, but I might be wrong.

I wouldnt get too excited about it, tried the demo and its pretty much a reskin of Wing Commander Arena. Hopefully the next film they will have someone to make a decent game of it, instead of this.
