Star Trek Continues, Episode 4...

I'll be happy just to get some general behind-the-scenes shots and some fun Kickstarter videos, and just to know that they are back at work!

While STC's webisodes are enjoyable and watchable, so far they've delivered 2 sequels, and one stronger offering that nevertheless relied a bit too much on the sex appeal of its guest-character to get over (if Lolani had been a female gorn or tellarite, would viewers have flocked to this episode as much?).

I'll still watch their future offerings, but unless they really pull off something close to a stand-alone no-callbacks no-sequels fit-and-trim video with at least a handful of FX beauty shots, my Kickstarter budget will be allocated elsewhere for the nonce...

Also, kinda disappointed that Chris White isn't returning as director.

I've liked them to a degree, but they haven't been perfect..

The continuity has been all over the place, and the continuity person is vital in film-making..

And I thought some of the editing has been choppy

Landing party now seems virtually assured for Episode 4 now that they've posted photos of a communicator built for the series.

Interview with Michele Specht on Trek FM: http://www.trek.fm/continuing-mission/16

Her enthusiasm is infectious.

Hardly. It sounds more like she's a good actress who understands the importance of publicity and how to effectively generate it during an interview. I'm not trying to say she can't or isn't a genuine fan; just that this particular interview comes across as too enthusiastic and sugary, the way Continues' first Kickstarter video was too "look how well we all get along!" enthusiastic and sugary.

In all honesty; that's Michele; she's not acting, that's they way she is.
Yes, just check out her Facebook page and you'll see that she's constantly enthusing about how much she loves Star Trek Continues. Not just an act she puts on for special occasions.

James Kerwin, who will be directing episode 4, has revealed that the script is written by him, Chris White (who directed "Lolani"), and Vic Mignogna. He says it will be "far more dramatic- and character-based" than episode 3.

Wait, more dramatic than episode 3? That was a pretty dramatic episode (in a good way). Hopefully it doesn't mean melodramatic. It's a line not all fan films walk that well.

He also said it's less action-oriented, so I'm guessing he means personal crises but no fistfights or phasers.

Through Facebook a few months ago STC asked what crossovers do people want; most said Doctor Who or Starship Farragut so hopefully that'll come to fruition.

What with Mignogna's Kirk having already popped up on Farragut, they've technically done a crossover with that. Don't see why they'd say anything about crossovers unless they planned to do one at some point, unless they were just building empty hype, which to be fair is something not altogether beyond the realms of possibility.

I mean a full crossover, that was just a cameo! I spoke to one of the directors and they said Doctor Who was unlikely as their philosophy is to try and do stories that they would have done back in 1969 which I guess sets them apart from Phase II.

Anything post-TOS in their show is a tiny shoutout or for continuity if the script requires it (i.e. in LOLANI, they needed to refer to the Orion events in Enterprise in order to keep canon.)

I'm going to assume you mean apart from the existence of a "ship's counselor" figure as a new member of the recurring cast. Their business, of course, but I'd hardly call that a tiny shout out or necessary for continuity. Still, unlike some I have no issues to changes to the TOS era stuff where appropriate or necessary, so more power to 'em.

Shame about the Who crossover. Still: leaves it open for others to try the same thing...

As for a Farragut crossover, I'm gonna shrug at that. Its a matter of good storytelling, but as far as crossovers go we've seen other starships in TOS before, and done to perfection in stories like The Doomsday Machine, The Ultimate Computer and The Omega Glory. Any Continues effort would have to at least match those to be worth the effort, IMO.

And the 'holodeck' scene in the first episode :wtf: lol all in good fun.

I myself like it when they reference the other shows; that's why I love Phase II they move it forward. I do enjoy Continues though, it's a high quality production with good storytelling and acting, I respect that there are a lot of TOS 'purists' on here.

As has been explained (repeatedly) the holodeck idea actually dates back to when TOS was in production and actually seen in TAS. Stricly speaking it's not a TNG era invention.

I apologise I missed the last times, and I have seen the TAS episode but it was called something else.

like I said I don't mind TNG references at all they're fun; I grew up with the 24th Century era and all the movies; it wasn't until 2003 with New Voyages I became a TOS convert  I was a silly boy refusing to watch the original 79 as a kid because of the production values!
