Star Trek Continues, Episode 4...

A cursory scan of the Continues facebook page reveals that Vic Mignogna is (one of) the admin(s) on the site as he frequently identifies himself while posting.

I will disclose that on occasion I've replied to some fan posts--those expressing a wish to see STC do something really fannish (and distinctly outside STC's stated intent)--with a polite, "Please, no."

Seriously, I have no desire to ever see Cyrano Jones again or to revisit the gangster planet from "A Piece Of The Action" or any other contrived revisit of anyone else from TOS. And despite STC's stated intent some fans still express interest in seeing certain crossovers.

I liked Cyrano, but I agree completely.

And of the 3 episodes so far, my favorite by far is "Lolani" it's a new story that uses things established but not very much explored.

"Pilgrim of Eternity" was a continuation, but it was the first episode and helped establish their was the universe we've always known and loved, plus they had the original actor, not a small thing. Also, I felt it was a good continuation even though I had a bit of confusion at seeing Apollo alive when he appears to "die" at the end "Who Mourns for Adonis?" Overall a very good effort and I enjoyed it.

"Fairest of Them All" while I enjoyed, I also felt was silly and a waste of an episode. We're getting 1 or 2 a year, so I doubt there might be 78 more of these, so to use up what we're getting on the Mirror Universe just saddens me. I liked the episode "Mirror, Mirror" but any revisits to that plane of existence have cheapened the concept to laughable, in my opinion. So while the STC episode 3 was competently done and I thought the actor playing Spock was especially good, I'm disappointed. If I'm into a "reality" such as Star Trek, then I want to see something that "actually happens" to the characters. So all this episode, we see some nice character development for Mirror Spock, and it's fun to see Mirror Scotty and so on, but next episode, it never happened as far as non-mirror Kirk and Spock and Scotty because it didn't happen to them. It's like a big warning blurb in some of those old Superman comics that warned you it's a "pretend story" and doesn't affect the continuity of the universe or the development of the characters. It's fun to see, sometimes, but with the dearth of new material, to explore that avenue disappointed me. I almost didn't watch it, but then I defeated that notion easily, but I wouldn't have paid a dollar if there were a fee involved. I'd pay to own the other two episodes if that were an option, however.

for my favorite non official theory of the existence of the Mirror Universe.

I'm sorry at the length of my rant.

I don't see Fairest as a revisit to the mirror universe but as a continuation of the original Mirror Mirror episode. I'm in awe of how they managed to seamlessly integrate this into the original without missing a beat. I can't imagine any other production attempting and succeeding at this without becoming a parody or a joke. I would have thought that a literal side by side comparison of a fan production to an original episode would be impossible and definitely fail with all the cracks showing, but somehow STC managed. Very gutsy.

I agree with the quality of it, very well done. I wasn't overly impressed with the actress playing Smith, but everyone else was very good.

But what is the difference between revisit and continuation in this situation.

You're right that they continued the action of Mirror, Mirror from the Mirror Universe side of things. They also did it by revisiting it instead making a new orgininal story about some other subject.

Yeah, they were working up to that one! :rommie:

If there's anyone more exciting left to announce, I may have to admit myself to Ticonderoga High School...

Never been into Dr. Who - especially not the "old" ones - so I don´t care much for that. I hope they don´t rely on casting stunts but get a better, newer story.

I wonder who as...?

Pun totally intended.
I'm sure it's not this, but there was a Professor Osric Whipple in the Gold Key comics who looked like this.

Dang, you figured it out!! We WERE only relying on casting stunts! Now I guess we will have to write a script or something.

If not The Doctor, specifically, maybe another eccentric Time Traveler intercepted by the Enterprise?

Well, the Facebook announcement is pretty pointed:

Star Trek Continues is proud to announce Colin Baker from Doctor Who as our guest star for Ep4. Colin will bridge the gap between the two most iconic series of all time. Please welcome Colin to the Star Trek Continues family!

"Bridging the gap," etc. would seem to suggest a crossover with the Sixth Doctor-era of Doctor Who with TOS/Continues.

Too, the argument could be made, despite it being an attempt at a franchise crossover, that apart from some clever writing in the fan audio dramas like Star Trek: The Section 31 Files, no such crossover attempt has been made in the fan films yet.

If they just mean "bridging the gap" in the sense of casting an actor from one show to the other, they're late to the game as that's already been done (Simon Pegg and Noel Clarke come to mind, for example).

Finally, it's also entirely possible that the Continues PR machine is trolling us with this and has something entirely different lined up for Baker to be doing.

If they did do Colin's Doctor... it would be interesting to see how that's supposed to fit their MO. I'd love to see it... but it'd be a far cry from their stated goal to be as close to the original Trek to possible (although they've done a bunch of stuff that also ignores that same stated goal, so it can't be much of an actual priority compared to just telling stories - nothing wrong with that).

I'd be hesitant to see Trek/Who crossed over unless I was really, really sure of the writing talent behind it. There's a danger when crossing those two over that either the Doctor makes everyone look like an idiot or the Trek crew makes the Doctor look impotent. The balance would be... tricky.

I think they are just referencing the fact that they are getting a guest star known from Doctor Who.

I seriously doubt they will do any kind of crossover... especially only 4 episodes in.

But that kind of ambiguous language is a clever way to try and generate buzz and awareness.
