STAR TREK: CONSTELLATION...

Some thoughts on what the interior of the Constellation could be like.

For one thing I regect the "all grey" motif that ENT had. That was really drab as hell. And I can't imagine a more demoralizing colour scheme for poor saps who are supposed to be locked up in that can for several months to a couple of years.

That said I don't envision too many places aboard being all that spacious. In many if not most areas it could be similar to a naval destroyer or certainly somewhat better than a nuclear submarine. I envision the Bridge could be reasonably roomy as well as the common rec area and hangar bay (although not as spacious as a 23rd century Starfleet starship).

I also like the idea of varying the colour scheme from overbearing grey for the sake of the crew's mental health. Rec areas, messrooms and crew quarters should have some brightness and colour.

I also like the idea of landing teams or at least landing team leaders trained specifically to be the first to set foot onto planetary surfaces. There would have to be some form of security contingent involved (although all personnel would have to have some minimum sort of security training) because one never knows what one might encounter planetside.

I think the SG teams of Stargate are a fair template. All members of SG teams had basic miltary training even if they were predominantly scientists (notably Amanda Carter and Daniel Jackson).

While the Captain would be an important figure and character it isn't likely we would see him among the first to lead landing parties to the surface. If for no other reason we have no transporter system to conveniently yank him/her back aboard at the first sign of trouble. Also we could have real time communication between landing parties and those monitoring from orbit (something briefly glimpsed in TNG). Again Stargate gives us some idea of what this could be like.

In terms of hand weaponry I envsion something that can fire an electrical charge (of varying strength settings) as a form of stunning device yet also uses primarily projectiles like a more familiar firearm. Yet again Stargate gives us some idea of what this might be somewhat like.

- what looks like a planet that seems to appear and disappear at will. The Constellation gets caught in one of the disapperances and next finds itself outside the galaxy. How can they get back?

It would be awesome if the way to get home was a long journey back, rather than a reset at the end of the episode.

There could be a few episodes while they are stuck in the void.

- aliens who have adapted to life in open space want to return home.

Speaking of which... ;)

My original idea for this was a story I began to write as a Pike era story. It was to tell the story of the first contact with the Vedala from TAS.

The Vedala travel the galaxy (the universe?) in worldships. These worldships are planetary sized artificial constructs. They don't use space warps like warp drives, but rather their science allows them to "jump" through artificially created wormholes from one point to another. The jumps last only a few seconds. Seen from outside it looks like the worldships actually just appear out of nowhere and disappear instantly into nothingness.

From a distance the worldships look like blurry and silvery spheres as if imaging instruments are out of focus. But that's just a field effect the Vedala use to veil the true appearance of their "worlds." The title of my story was Neverland because going to the surface of a Vedala worldship is akin to stepping through the looking glass where their science is so advanced it seems like magic.

The first contact was initiated by the Vedala because they were curious about humanity who (by Pike's time) were really reaching deep into interstellar space.

Here are some images I worked up illustrating scenes from the story.

It's possible this story could be adapted for Star Trek: Constellation.

Hm, sounds interesting.

Any chance you could turn that into fan fiction/short story? (Maybe with Pike anc co. if you haven't yet fleshed out the Constellation's crew). Now I'm interested how they get home:lol:

^^ I completed the story up to the last image I posted above where the Enterprise finds themselves outside the galaxy.

The story also features a younger Councilor Sarek who is rather brusk with his son Spock. I used this idea to explore the beginnings of Spock's loyalty to Pike as reference in "The Menagerie" two-parter.

The story is set only a couple of months after "The Cage."

Here is where we stand, folks. While it will never be pretty (it can at least look purposeful) it can give us a fair idea what the hero ship could look like. Starting with a Matt Jefferies' concept sketch I've tried to retain a TOS like aesthetic to it (not much in extraneous lights for one thing) and there's also something of a 1950's vibe to it to look reasonably pre TOS.

I like the thicker, sturdier-looking pylons, but sort of miss the swirling energies in the nacelle caps.

And I still don't like the main deflector that looks like the ship's nose. All it needs are a couple of eyes and a big smile painted between the beam emitters and it'll look just like Charlie Brown's head. In fact that could be the ship's nick-name: Good Ol' Charlie Brown.

Well you did say the the crew gets kidded about the ship's looks. ;)

That said I think it's pretty good work.

Turn the ship upside down and you robotic eyes and nose. :)

Makes me think of some of those aircraft with bulbous like noses crammed with radar instruments or such.

A refit could result in a more compact nav deflector setup.

I don't think that 200 crews are fit for a long journey. At least not for the early era of the space exploration. That's because of the food. Even if the ship can last for 2 years space exploration, the crews can't. They need food, and there is no food replicator in this era.

And space is different to the Earth. Even if this ship meet another species, it doesn't mean that the crews can eat the alien food. Because they simply different. Look at this matter. If a US Citizens can suffer from traveling diarrhea when he eats in another country (like Africa, Asia, etc), then what happen if the crews eat something that is not even for human?

So I think that rather than 200 crews, we have to decrease the men just because they need food to survive for 2 years. Well, yes, they can grew their own vegetable in the ship. But you still need bigger farm for bigger crews; as the food can't grow every day. They need time to harvest.

So maybe 50 men are enough. 10 to handle the hydroponic farm, the others to take care the ship.

The the hangar will take the whole upper sphere area?

^^ No, I've spaced the decks out already. The hangar for two small craft doesn't take that much room.

I don't know how many crew yet and 200 seems maybe a bit large. Also we're talking about over a century from now so plenty of time for advancements in materiels and food production. This is also a soft reboot so it doesn't matter what ENT might have shown because it's doesn't apply.

Another look.

Given a new Trek series is in the works for 2017 a lot of the ideas in this forum are even more moot than before.

That said I wonder if my Star Trek: Constellation idea could still work but as a fan production or even an online comic. Unfortunately I'm not sure as to how I could even make that happen.

Don't give up just yet ;). There's plenty of room left for more Star Trek!
