Star Trek blu-ray deleted scenes

All these scenes were great. Why did they cut them out?

I especially love the Rura Penthe, Kirk brothers, and Not Gaila scenes! :)

Vulcan-Human family problems

Not needed, only serves to give Amanda more presence in the film when she clealy has the very next scene (talking to spock before he goes before the council) .

I think this scene should've stayed in because it made external the internal conflict of Spock through his parents, showing us the audience what each of them represent to Spock--human vs. Vulcan thinking. This we got TOLD later in the movie, but this where we actually SEE it.

The scene also serves the undercurrent of emotion Spock feels for his mother, which culminates in the scene where Kirk says, "You feel nothing! It must not even compute for you! You never loved her"

Well.. anyone who has watched TOS knows that Spock has mother issues. I didn't think it needed to be spelled out any more than it was in the STXI.

The "mommy issues" fit thematically within the framework of the film, on its own separate from the television series it is based upon. Moreover, in the original show, Spock had more daddy issues than mommy ones.

This scene wasn't spelling it out. It was externalizing Spock's inner conflict and showing it through his parents arguing. Whereas if we were told it, then that would be spelling it out for the audience--like Uhura's abilities. We are told about it but we are never shown it. Here the reverse is true--we're shown the inner struggle conflict.

Yeah...I don't think so. I tend to side with J.J., a guy with considerable experience.

They sloooooowed doooooown theeeee paaaaace of theeeee fiiiiilm.... :rommie:

In a film that probably needed it.

I can see why there may have been some editing-room anxiety about allowing mainstream audiences to think for one millisecond, "this shit is just for those weird fans, and I'm bored now." Probably not a realistic fear but hindsight is 20/20.

Too bad they had to cut the scene where we learn that Spock was born at Vasquez Rocks! :rommie: Best Easter Egg in the whole movie.

The scene with the Kirk boys should have stayed in. Editing it out made it seem like Jimmy was just a punk causing trouble, rather than having a legit reason to be angry. Also, I really dislike the idea that they wrote Sam out of the story - this time around, he has the chance not to end up face down on an alien world with a fried flying egg eating his brain. :p

The Kirk & not-Gaila scene was a nice little bit of character based humor that really should have been left in. He wasn't being racist, he just has a...poor memories for faces. :rommie:

I liked the Vulcan scenes, naturally, and wish they had stayed in. It was funny to see the look on Sarek's face after Amanda she stormed off.

The young Jim Kirk scene DEFINITELY should have stayed in. It explained the kid a lot better.

The Gaila stuff, not. It made Kirk look like a creep. I really, really hated the Kobayashi Maru scene anyhow even without that. Not only did he use the girl, but he didn't even remember what she looked like? I could see Kirk reprogramming the computer, but not using someone like he did to do so. Ugh.

I know it's a kewl reboot, but that's not *my* Jim Kirk. This one is a punk and obnoxious.

I would have liked to see the young Kirk scene left in. I think it would have balanced things as we only see the chase and "what's your name" exchange with the young Kirk while we see quite a lot more about the young Spock. Watching the film I just assumed young Kirk was a ratbag and made a practice of this behavior but the deleted scene shows it was a turning point.

I think it made sense to delete most of these scenes. Personally I would have left in Kirk Bros, maybe Kobayashi Maru.

I'm glad they deleted the Rura Penthe scenes, and I'll tell you why - they didn't tell you enough. Didn't tell you where the Narada was for 20+ years, didn't tell you how Nero was captured. Didn't explain if the Klingons had access to the Narada and its technology. Those scenes could have been written so much better, and explained so much more.
