Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

I may be mis-remembering but I recall a mention last year of a 'name' actress being attached to Beyond with some speculation she was playing some Federation high official type. I always imagined the shots from Dubai where we see Pine in a board room to be him talking to this person.

Perhaps they decided to re-shoot those scenes in post. For all we know it may have been the same actress as the original one was never officially announced.

Don't. Reshoots are as normal as breathing. Movie goes to test audiances, they like stuff, they don't like stuff. If it's simple/cheap enough to reshoot the stuff people reacted bady to, it gets reshot.
Even without testing, directors do reshoots off their own bat, if they want to insert a couple of extra shots, or if they belatedly realise a scene as originally shot didn't quite work, or bits and pieces they didn't get to in the original schedule. It's a sign that the director is paying attention, and cares about the final product.

I know reshoots are normal, but do they usually happen after trailers have already been released? It just seems a little late in the game to be doing this, and with a brand new actor as well!
It's normal for movies to be edited right up to release date. That's part of the reason we see trailers that contain scenes missing from the final movie.

That's actually quoting an interview from middle of last year:

I was talking to Gustavo Leão, ex-Trekweb, and he told me, according to his sources, during the test screening, the audience did not like the end of the film, so they decided to do a reshoot. I do not know if it's true. Does anyone have any information about this test screening of the film?
he told me that the test screening was a disaster, but it is his opinion (or his source) and I know he does not like the Abrams movie. I hope it's not true.

I thought Lin was still editing the film.
Lin sent a message on twitter (March 11) where he said he was in the STB cutting room and he and his group were watching 10 Cloverfield Lane. So, in my opinion, he's still editing.
There is much rumor about Beyond. Despite not knowing anything about post production, many people speak ill of the movie.

Gustavo went off the deep end there toward the end of Trekweb. I would take that with a monumental grain of salt.

...the audience did not like the end of the film, so they decided to do a reshoot.

We've had two endings that have been redone in Trek movies, that I know of. The Wrath of Khan and Generations... one worked, one not so much.

So, I've got nothing.

Thus far, the only things I've heard about test screenings of Star Trek Beyond have come from sources which frequently claim inside knowledge but later turn out to have been wildly inaccurate about practically everything. I think I'll just wait and see.

I was a little surprised when I heard the reshoots were adding a new character, but I don't think it's anything to worry about. Shoreh Agdashloo is a great actress, so I'm just happy she's going to be in the movie.
A lot of theories going around say that since she's playing a high ranking official, possibly even the UFP President, and that the new scenes will add exposition or clarify something. If that is the case, then I'm glad the caught the issue while they had time to try to fix it.

Oh man. Hope that's not true...

More likely that not, it was an early rough cut screened for studio executives who saw an opportunity to tweak the ending.

I mean we're talking about a few scenes with the President of the Federation. Do you really think a disastrous test screening can be fixed by simply inserting a few talking head scenes? Come on.

A test screening is the showing of a 99.9% finished movie to a general test audience. Given Lin was still editing recently and even took time out to watch 10 Cloverfield Lane, I doubt it was a test screening to the public.

Give us some specifics. Where, when, how big was the test audience? How many test screening has there been?

Well, at least we know Zoe is filming reshoots too she posted this from 'work'

Gustavo Leon reveals his source:... "The source is Leo Roberts, a producer of B movies in Hollywood. He has his sources. He is the author of the fan film STAR TREK PHOENI. According to him, Paramount was doing several test screening, and they are worried. There was a screening test in Los Angeles, then, he said, it was not difficult to notice that the public did not like the movie (apparently the Enterprise only appears at the very beginning of the film and Kirk does not receive another Enterprise) and the same public hated the end. That's no secret, I am a friend of Roberts since he produced his fan movie in 2010 and he posted the information with details on my Facebook page which caused several trolls. Justin Lin praises AXANAR the same week that Paramount politely asked him to reshoot BEYOND."
I cannot believe this. Following this reasoning, the movie would have to be cancelled or reassigned.
