Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

I was thinking about this video with Zach embracing Justin Lin on set.
Zach was alone and maybe shooting scene paying tribute to nimoy.

No one cares about the goddamned Prime Directive.

Not even the show ... until it does but it really doesn't it at the same time.

Yes. It could be arguable, but in my opinion, Kirk had broken the Prime Directive in The Return of the Archons, Miri and The Apple,

If I remember correctly wasn't the planet from Miri sending a distress call which the Enterprise was responding too? Planets sending such calls aren't covered by the Prime Directive.

And in the other two cases the planets were attacking, or had previously attacked a Federation Starship which again negates the Prime Directive.

The whole lens flare thing was always an odd complaint to me. It's weird that Abrams did it that way, and I get that people don't like it, but what bearing does that have on enjoying the movie?
It's part of the visual aesthetic of the film. If JJ decided that every fifth shot should be in black and white and some people felt that it distracted them and reduced their enjoyment of the film, would you understand their annoyance?

I personally don't care much one way or the other with the lens flares (although I feel he could have toned 'em down a bit sometimes) but I do get the complaint.

.

Sure, because then they'd have a point. Complaining about lens flare is just stupid.

Amazing that an "insider"-proclaimed "fan production" managed to:

1) complete production in a timely fashion; and
2) enlist a cast of hundreds and film on two different continents

despite so many "issues" with production and "never having a script or even a budget!"

:p

It is a fan film. There is no Star Trek Beyond, what we saw in Dubai were pickup shots for the Yorktown fan film!

I had q dream that I watched the movie. I don't whether it was a psychic power or the metric fuckton of Italian food I ate last night, but there was a dragon and a ghost in it. And everybody talked a lot. It was pretty underwhelming.

Which makes me sad.

Oh, I think he could tone them down as well. but that doesn't impact enjoyment.

As for your comparison, I don't think that's a fair one. Lens flare are natural artifacts of light on a camera that Abrams was trying to recreate. Going to Black and White would be a full effect that would contrast against the rest of the film.

I just feel like the lens flares, of all things, receive the most vitriol when that is the least of Abrams' Trek problems.

I've had dreams like that, too. Can't remember specific examples, but the characters tend to be talkative like in your dream. Also a little way into each dream I'll think, "God, this is bad, I hope this isn't the real movie." Maybe it's a Trek fan's version of a nightmare. Maybe it's my mind reminding me I should never think I can write a Trek movie.

I can see that the overuse of lens flare might negatively impact someone's enjoyment of a film, by interfering with the way they process the visuals. When shaky cam goes too far, it gives me a headache, and there's no way I'm going to enjoy a film that does that.

That said, I don't believe that all complaints about the lens flare are sincere. Some of them aren't far enough away from "Abrams raped Star Trek because lens flare" for me to believe that.

Abrams himself admitted he got carried away with it. And anyway, complaining about it really did stop being funny years ago (not that anyone seemed to be complaining about it here and now, thank the Great Bird).

I love the lens flares, personally, it makes the movie look more polished and real to me.

these set pics:

BQHQqX8.jpg

they claim it might be Quinto and he looks vaguely similar but:
- he's a bit chubby on the tummy to be him
- vulcans look all the same from distance
- the guy from this other set pic was wearing different clothes: http://trekcore.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/lunch.jpg)
- ....why should spock wear vulcan traditional robes while being at a starfleet outpost during an emergency?
whoever these extras are representing, in terms of vulcans, I think they're not civilians or people there to visit the place. These should be vulcans who have a particular role like ambassadors or diplomats. I don't think the every day vulcan, especially Spock's age, usually wears that kind of clothes. Probably Spock's civillian clothes are simple and practical.

They've really gone all out on making new outfits for this movie, that Vulcan robe looks amazingly elaborate compared to the pretty meager monk-like stuff we got before.

to be honest, when creating vulcan costumes it might be too easy for costume designers to fall into the well known 'cultural appropriation' issue because the more elaborated clothes and female hair styles might look too asian inspired.. Star Wars for example was heavily criticized by some for taking traditional asian (and not only) costumes and using them as 'inspiration' for Padme's costumes (example of post pointing that up)

maybe the previous designer for these movies tried to stay away from that stuff but still used old trek as a reference, in some way. (I remember that in the deleted scene of Spock's birth Sarek was wearing some pretty badass 'all leather' attire tho ;) )

I find it believable that outside of particular circumstances and for certain roles, everyday vulcans might have very 'boring' clothes in general, nothing too fancy or elaborated. Just practical and comfortable.

Practical and comfortable is a logical way for any being to dress. ;)

Sarek in "Journey to Babel" wore a jacket and pants. Nothing about what he wore screamed, "Vulcans, and only Vulcans, dress this way." He could have bought the suits we see him in it at a Brooks Brothers in San Francisco on Earth. Sarek was more exotically dressed in the TOS movies, but he was back to being put into simpler clothing in ST09.

I think how everyone is dressed in the Dubai photos needs to be taken in its entire context. As has been pointed out by many, all the aliens we've seen so far for STB in Dubai, including the Vulcans, seem dressed in quite formal clothing. Ceremonial, maybe.

That's why I wonder if the grays some Starfleet personnel are wearing are formal, or simply a uniform of the day. Because they certainly don't look that particularly formal.

So much is so confusing. C'mon, July 2016!

Yes. It could be arguable, but in my opinion, Kirk had broken the Prime Directive in The Return of the Archons, Miri and The Apple,

All three wouldn't fall under the "living, growing" cultures interpretation. Which, obviously, Starfleet agrees with or Kirk wouldn't have remained in command of the Enterprise.

The Return of the Archons said:
KIRK: That refers to a living, growing culture. Do you think this one is?
