Well, they were on their five-year mission during "The Ultimate Computer" but he found them. 
In any event, the only thing connecting Elba with Daystrom is that the character was played by an African-American actor half a century ago and Elba is of African ancestry. Given that the studio and producers have already demonstrated - with CumberKhan - that their approach to casting isn't bound by such nonsense, there's no reason to speculate about it at all.

Because once you go Black...you can't possibly cast another minority actor in a new role.
Daystrom's appearance in TOS was also during the five-year mission. Wasn't a problem there, was it?

I'm ready for someone new at this point. After his bland, lukewarm Jurassic World score I don't think he has anything fresh to offer.
I liked the Jurassic World score, and brought his soundtrack for 'The Incredibles' just yesterday. My vinyl of Jupiter Ascending's soundtrack (one of the best parts of the damn movie) shipped about a week ago, and I liked the music for 'Tomorrowland' when I saw it in the cinema.
None of those scores were anything like the other. Beyond's could suck, or it could be great. No use dismissing him it until we hear what he's offering.
Funny thing about Goldsmith - I was reading a review of the expanded Nemesis score earlier today, where they dismissed it because he changed the arrangement of the main theme too much. I personally liked how he (and his son I believe?) made 'Blue Skies' into the secondary theme.

Weird thing -- I normally love Michael Giacchino's work, but his Trek scores just don't appeal to me much. And that's a shame.
As far as I know, Joel Goldsmith only assisted on the First Contact score (and on the sound effects for ST:TMP). I can't find any indication that he helped on Nemesis.

I look forward to Michael Giacchino's score. His work on both movies are decent enough, but where he works best is during the big "reveal" scenes, especially for the titles, credits, and any hero-shots of the Enterprise. If for nothing else, I love his theme.
Well, his score for The Incredibles is just
there is no doubt.And you are right, the Jupiter Ascending OST is grand and in parts even playful, and Tomorrowland is fun too (though in parts it sounds a bit like it's about to break out into "Enterprising Young Men").
These works make the Jurassic World score sound even paler in comparison.
So, not all hope is lost, I guess.
