Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

My apologies to The Wormhole. :alienblush:

If they wanted a comedic romp, they could go with Star Trek: Beyond Animal House. It'd be a fun story about Jim and the gang in their respective frat/sorority houses.

just dropping in and say that I love the title. short and to the point. It is, as rumored, set in the 5 year mission. So yes, they should trek beyond known territories

I hope they will stick with the same premise of having Shatner/Kirk in it. Shatner said recently since the new writing team and director took over, he hasn't heard a thing.

interesting article. maybe it could be Ceti Alpha V?! and a Shatner cameo must happen. theyd be mad not to do it

No. No Shatner cameo. Enough TOS nostalgia. This was supposed to be about making a fresh start unencumbered by fannish baggage, and so far it's fallen short of that goal. Let's make a clean break and move forward. Star Trek should not be about clinging to the past.

Don't get me wrong -- I liked the deleted Shatner cameo they had written for the '09 movie, and though it would've been a bit self-indulgent, I would've liked to see it there. But the window's passed, and STID showed that too much gratuitous nostalgia only hurts the series. So there comes a time when you just have to let it go.

I'm a no on the Shatner cameo. But I'm curious how exactly "gratuitous nostalgia" hurt Star Trek Into Darkness (or the series)? It seems like a movie lots of people enjoyed.

As some of you know, I have lived very near Dubai for the past 6 years, and I can tell you that if they are looking for "Futuristic City" scenes to shoot, there really is not a more futuristic, avant, architecturally unique city than Dubai.

But it is supposed to be a 50th Anniversary movie is it not? You can't have that without Shatner and Nimoy. In that respect I loved Orci's idea on how to bring them into it. IMHO, I think it was wrong for Paramount not to allow Pegg to read the Orci script - some great ideas in there Pegg could really expand on.

I'm down for the next movie that goes down the Forrest Gump route, where they digitially insert the reboot crew into the 2260s footage of Trials and Tribble-ations.

Nostalgia-ception!

I agree. No Shatner cameo. Shatner should have appeared in ST 2009. Now, this time is over.
I think there are many ways to pay tribute to original cast.

Not exactly an option where Nimoy is concerned.

You want to have a nostalgic tribute to the original cast, let's have a big TV special or something. Let the movie be a story on its own terms rather than just the franchise patting itself on the back.

Agreed. That there are still even movies fifty years and a new set of actors after TOS first aired is tribute enough. Fifty years of relevancy. That's cool in and of itself. Being too self-aware about it would border on being smarmy.

Kinda boring, but it's not the worst thing ever. I'll have a better opinion of the title once I know more about the film itself.

I didn't mind "Into Darkness" as a title until I saw the movie, and now I really don't think it works all that well.
