As I pointed out before, ST4 is definitely being made. If they can aim for 2018 that would be great...except for the fact that the clueless moron of an incoming president will probably have ruined the economy by then.

I hope Jaylah is part of the next movie. She needs to be on the Enterprise

It was definitely set up for this at the end of Beyond, and with Anton's passing and the announcement that he wouldn't be recast (rightly so IMO) then the stage is set for her to feature. She's a badass character that's capable of some 'fish out of water' comic relief. I'm all for her return, they'd be silly not to use her.

2019 be more likely..besides its another big anniversary year (TMP, V, GEN, ST09, and the end of TOS) :)

Beyond is the current #6 bluray on bluray.com, and #3 for the year. It's the number 1 best selling scifi bluray and #8 overall on Amazon.com. It's #3 in the Uk currently. Overall sales figures are not available.

I will buy the DVD this month. I read the negative reveiws on Amazon, some of them are pretty funny even though I disagree with them.

I've watched it a few times since I bought it on Blu-ray. It really is a great, uplifting blockbuster. A lot of fun.

What made it worth watching for me were the Bones/McCoy scenes, Jaylah and Kevin. IMO Kirk was not memorable at all, although wanting to be a Rear Admiral at 30 must be some record!

Beyond has moved up from 17th to 14th highest grossing movie released in the last 365 contiguous days at the box office in the USA.

 …Which is only because 3 movies that were more successful than STB were recently 'pushed out' of the last-365-days list because of their release dates.

Star Trek Beyond's total worldwide box office remains at $ 343,471,816 (or x 1.85 times it's budget) as I have previously reported.

Oh I liked Kirk in this, I liked that they developed his character from the previous two films. Let's face it, he was a bit of dick in 09 and STID, and this 'not ready for command fratboy' act wouldn't have cut it here. I've really warmed to Pine as an actor, and as Kirk because of Beyond. And who doesn't love the line at the end - 'better to die saving lives than to live with taking them, that's what I was born into' at first I didn't notice, and just thought it was a nice retort to Krall's line, it wasn't until my second viewing of the film I realised that he actually meant it literally. He really was born in those circumstances. Great stuff.

Yes, Kirk's arc felt very much completed from 09 to Beyond. I love his character development, and his different ways of outthinking his opponents.

You have to look past all the pew pew sometimes. Kirk's character development is given greater attention in these three movies than most of his Prime appearances IMO.

Hmm, maybe. The TV show didn't do a lot. The movies did more, but I think it's hard to compare the two series in this regard, since the new movies focus on a younger Kirk, while the original ones focus on an older one. Different kinds of stories

Personally, I'd argue that Undiscovered Country did more interesting things with Kirk's character than the new movies combined, but we are getting into subjectivity.

I agree with this point. I think Kirk's character goes through not only changes, but significant changes to bring him to maturity, that Prime Kirk never had to deal with, and certainly not as young as Kelvin Kirk.

I think TUC highlights Kirk's growth the best, in terms of films, and "City on the Edge of Forever" and "Conscience of the King" in TOS proper. But, for a film series, I think Kirk's arc from "rebel without a cause" to "overconfident captain" and beyond is done quite well.

And, yes, you have to look past all the "pew-pew."

I think TUC distorts Kirk's character to suit the current story. Kirk isn't racist, just look at "Balance of Terror" or STV: TFF where he drinks happily with Klingons. All the characters suffered badly in VI, IMO.
