An expected flood of awards nominations for the excellent Beyond started with the announcement of 2 Critic's Choice Awards nominations for Beyond including best sci-fi/horror movie.
Star Trek in a nutshell. Ridiculously awesome, and awesomely ridiculous.
I hope Jaylah is part of the next movie. She needs to be on the Enterprise
2019 be more likely..besides its another big anniversary year (TMP, V, GEN, ST09, and the end of TOS)As I pointed out before, ST4 is definitely being made. If they can aim for 2018 that would be great...except for the fact that the clueless moron of an incoming president will probably have ruined the economy by then.
Beyond has moved up from 17th to 14th highest grossing movie released in the last 365 contiguous days at the box office in the USA.
What made it worth watching for me were the Bones/McCoy scenes, Jaylah and Kevin. IMO Kirk was not memorable at all, although wanting to be a Rear Admiral at 30 must be some record!
Yes, Kirk's arc felt very much completed from 09 to Beyond. I love his character development, and his different ways of outthinking his opponents.Oh I liked Kirk in this, I liked that they developed his character from the previous two films. Let's face it, he was a bit of dick in 09 and STID, and this 'not ready for command fratboy' act wouldn't have cut it here. I've really warmed to Pine as an actor, and as Kirk because of Beyond. And who doesn't love the line at the end - 'better to die saving lives than to live with taking them, that's what I was born into' at first I didn't notice, and just thought it was a nice retort to Krall's line, it wasn't until my second viewing of the film I realised that he actually meant it literally. He really was born in those circumstances. Great stuff.

You have to look past all the pew pew sometimes. Kirk's character development is given greater attention in these three movies than most of his Prime appearances IMO.
I agree with this point. I think Kirk's character goes through not only changes, but significant changes to bring him to maturity, that Prime Kirk never had to deal with, and certainly not as young as Kelvin Kirk. You have to look past all the pew pew sometimes.
