Yeah, I figured he couldn't have been referring to that. More the big loud electronic dropping sound that's been prevalent in sound design since Inception.

Knowing Pegg, i'm really rather excited for Star Trek Beyond. I hope they knock this one out of the park.
I don't think that's what Jedi_Master meant. He's referring to something from dramatic scenes, not trailers. He said "vuvuzela," and that doesn't sound anything like what you're thinking of. I also don't recall Giacchino's work being big on Inception-style BRAAAMs. That's more Hans Zimmer's thing. (Naturally, since he scored Inception.)
I think he was one of the music producers on Terminator 5, so that would explain the BWAAAM's there.
It's in Batman Begins as well. It's just back then, it wasn't quiet so...everywhere.
Somone suggested somewhere that it might be some sort of tweaked usage of the Blaster Beam from TMP. I'd personally say it's just a creative use of subwoofers, but I tend to call it 'the foghorn.'

I've been kinda miffed that there's been zero word on Eve. I liked her a lot in the second flick and its ending suggested she'd be aboard for the 5YM. Maybe there was a contract dispute. Maybe the new version of the third movie as per Lin/Pegg/Chung/et al just doesn't want her. Maybe she'll be in 4. A million maybes. And then of course maybe she's in Beyond.

The overhead instrument ring is missing from the bridge set as well. That doesn't mean that it, or the glass panels, won't be there when they film. This looks to have been filmed prior to the start of production, and many of those set elements are probably "wild."
