"Star Trek Begins" - The 'Origins' Film Discussion

A lot of that is down to Robinson's portrayal.
Fair point and I see similar feelings with Quark. This is nothing against their portrayals, as they are strong performances and clearly evoke feelings in the viewer, some more loyal, others (like myself) more annoyance.

My point is that the rejection of Georgiou or 31 should be phrased as personal preference to character rather than some sort of moral or ethical objection to what the character does.

Proof that the objections are not morality or ethics but purely characters.
In a sense, but it goes a bit deeper.

Put it this way, I would feel relatively safe having Garak make a three-piece suit for me.

With Georgiou, she would probably have me made into a three-piece suit.

That would entirely depend on who was writing it. For instance, if I was writing it, it would be exactly like everything I describe.

What I meant was that the actors who played Garak and Bashir would probably not be up to the task of being Guardians of the Galaxy type misfits, as they are 25 years older than the last time we saw them.

Oh yeah, I don't expect to see an 82 Andrew Robinson doing much in any Trek spin-offs. Alexander Siddig is four years younger than Michelle Yeoh though!

I don't trust either one but at least one is honest about their brutality.

Besides, this isn't about like or dislike. It's about what characters are deemed acceptable in Trek. In my opinion if Georgiou's morally unacceptable then so is Garak, likeable or not.

If Section 31 is objectionable in Trek then Bashir's inclusion should not decrease that objection.

Yes, I'm asking for rationality and consistency in a highly subjective and irrational medium defined by "do I like the character?"

Who cares if Garak was despicable? He was still a great character. Georgiou is just a cardboard one-dimensional Snively Whiplash that the audience is being told to like. They couldn’t be more different.
I never felt told to like her.

I care that's Garak is despicable. I feel like I was told to like him more than I ever thought with Georgiou.

I find it to be a double standard because of nebulous likeability of a character.

Mileage will vary and clearly does because I don't care about a smooth operator who will try to kill me if it suits his state's purpose.
