Star Trek back on TV!!!!!

First of all, I haven't read the article in question, so I don't know if the article is being taken out of context.

But I have heard that Latino Review is usually pretty spot on when it comes to announcements like this, so if the article purports a new series in the works, I'm inclined to suspect something might be afoot.

But again, I haven't seen the article.

If something *IS* in the works, I wonder if they're waiting for the 50th to make the announcement?

Internet rumors are generally not worth paying attention to. I'll wait for something official, thank you very much.

At least wait until they send you a character sheet and ask for ideas, in which case you won't be able to confirm or deny anything. ;)

I read the first four paragrapghs of that "article" before I coudln't stand anymore, and there was no news whatsoever. If there were actually anything to report I think you'd put it in the first four paragrapghs at least.

Latino Review are notorious for posting any old shite as "rumours and news"

I know nothing! :)

Seriously, I'm often biting my tongue when these sort of media rumors circulate because I know they're bullshit, but can't say anything because of confidentiality issues.

Although, to be clear, that's the not the case this time around. I've just grown very, very skeptical about such things over the years.

The way the internet blurs speculation, rumors, and news can be utterly terrifying sometimes.

EDIT: And the "rumor" has been debunked already:

I hope it is true though for me the ideal timeline for the next TV series would be for it to be set in the non movie timeline and around 20 to 25 years after Voyager returns to the Alpha Quadrant. With all that happened in the dominion war there would be a lot that the writers could do.

Hypothetically speaking, I think the next show should be set "in real time" after the last TNG-era show. If a new show is made next year, that would be 15 years post-Voyager (ca 2393). That way, you could still bring on guest-appearances by any of the TNG, DS9 or VOY casts.

The "Star Trek: Federation" idea is intriguing. One problem might be, any show set in the future, would look rather "dated" since we already have a lot of futuristic looking technologies. This was part of the reason for the iBridge in Trek 09/Into Darkness.

In any case, Trek belongs on tv. If CBS aren't already in the planning stages for a new show to coincide with Trek 50th, it would be a HUGE marketing/promotional loss on their part. Not a huge fan of the JJ movies, but he did accomplish one thing: He made Trek popular again.

It must be remembered that a large part of Trek's popularity is its ability to reflect our own journey, both as a society and as individuals. The latter can be dealt with in virtually any time setting, but the former can only be catered for by presenting a future that isn't totally out of our conceptual grasp. I can't imagine how a show set in the 31st century will really resonate with where we are today, and where we might be moving to. Let's keep the Federation as a lofty yet philosophically achievable goal
.. IMHO

Edit to add- I would love to see some more Akira class ships in action... If only..

There'll eventually be another Star Trek series.

I mean, a thousand Batman series, a new freaking Coach series. Eventually writers will be lazy enough to write another Star Trek series.

Just not today.

Just look at the BBC, and what they did with the 50th for Dr. WHO. Will CBS or one of their properties be able to make the fans connect with each other? To tell stories that reflect on our humanity?

What we don't need is Star Trek The Bachelor, or Star Trek Survivor

Star Trek themed reality shows? Like, a group of people in a simulation of a spaceship, given a command structure, having to work through simulated scifi adventures?

How has Syfy not already thought of this? ABC did it in a fantasy setting last summer.

A 2464 next next generation on a new Enterprise could work, including introducing new tech concepts that then become reality like what TOS and TNG did at the time.

Article summary:
The author thinks that a series called Star Trek: Federation which was proposed in 2006 will finally be put into production, based on the fact two of the creators are still talking about it as of December 2014.

This proposed series will feature a far-flung future Federation (as opposed to an alternate universe/timeline) where radical changes have taken place between the Alpha/Beta-quadrant species we're so familiar with from previous series.

I have my doubts about this. It's easy to get your hopes up when the people involved still seem enthusiastic about the project, but it's another thing to actually get it put into production.

I think we've all seen proposed movie sequels and television series fizzle out. On the off chance that it doesn't, I'm glad that Star Trek: Federation won't take place in the NuTrek Universe.

There isn't a new Star Trek TV series in the works. The article was just putting forth an idea for one, but giving it a bogus headline to attract attention.

All of the FEDERATION information is true...but we did that TEN YEARS AGO. The treatment was written but effectively killed when JJ took over. It never went further than the treatment...and no one ever pitched it...and I don't know if Geoffrey wrote a full script. While I have been working on AXANAR, and we are building sets, etc,...I know NOTHING about a new CBS Trek series. As for currently working on something with Skydance? NO COMMENT (but if I WERE, it is NOT related to TREK in any way).
