Star Trek back on TV!!!!!

haha part of the story says about a planned TV show

The second was developed closer to the JJ reboot and was written by producer Geoffrey Thorne, novelist and writer on things like Leverage and Criminal Intent and was called Star Trek: Federation

I called my idea for tv series federation lol!

Soooo... are we getting a new series? I saw the same article you did, honestly this has been rumored since last year, but nothing official...

Other than X-files is coming back....

So... X-Files and Star Trek! Sweet.

Hopefully it's true, but aren't ideas pitched to Paramount all the time?

It's just the author's wishes, nothing official. There is currently no series in development, or we'd all likely know it.

I hope it is true though for me the ideal timeline for the next TV series would be for it to be set in the non movie timeline and around 20 to 25 years after Voyager returns to the Alpha Quadrant. With all that happened in the dominion war there would be a lot that the writers could do.

Agreed!

I think it's important to keep moving forward timeline-wise, to stay fresh and interesting -

No doubt it helped the budget to keep the spinoffs in the 24th century, in terms of costumes, props & set pieces.

But a "sameness" sets in, and the spinoffs become a bit of a blur for the casual viewer. Part of the fun of TNG when it started was how the technology, ships, uniforms, etc. changed from the 23rd century.

It would be important to see how things developed years beyond TNG/DS9/VOYAGER Era to attract and interest viewers.

Plus- you get that fun "Whatever happened to Picard/Riker/Janeway ?" element like you did in TNG with Kirk & Spock.

The year 3000 setting could show Daniels in it and the Temporal Cold War, and perhaps finally find out who Future Guy is. It could also feature appearances by Guinan, Q, and a returning back up copy of the Doctor.

Yay?

I think the idea of setting Star Trek 500 years (or even up to year 3,000) in the future could grow on me rather quickly. Set it far enough ahead to not worry about continuity errors.

I wouldn't want a year 3000 Star Trek or anything that necessarily involves a lot of time travel, or something so far in the future that it would require even more ridiculous tech levels than we got in 24th century. I would want to see an early 25th century show.

Though I wouldn't terribly mind the reboot universe, just so long as the story focuses more on exploration than just bang bang action and doesn't fixate on races already established in the universe. Kind of like how Roddenberry didn't want TNG to fixate on Vulcans and Klingons, I would want the new series to use mostly its own new races.
