I usually don't revive old threads but in this case, I couldn't resist. I've finally finished 'a Director's Cut' of my tribute video. :D

Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing it. :)

It is absolutely brilliant.

edit: I love all the little extra touches you added into this version. Beautiful.

Re: 40TH ANNIVERSARY Tribute Video SPECIAL EDITION

*tear*

That version is so much better. Thank you once again for your time and effort for this wonderful tribute.

Re: 40TH ANNIVERSARY Tribute Video SPECIAL EDITION

What a beautiful piece of work! Kudos to you. :)

Re: 40TH ANNIVERSARY Tribute Video SPECIAL EDITION

All I can say is: WHOA!!! That was amazing!!! Good work. I was almost in tears at both the music and the sequences..absolutely beautiful and breathtaking!

Re: 40TH ANNIVERSARY Tribute Video SPECIAL EDITION

Thanks again everyone for commenting on the new 'spruced up' edition... ;)

Here's an alternative link to download the fan trailer in MPEG-4 format (ideal for Apple/iPod).

If anyone is having trouble with the WMV file try that. The video playback quality on YouTube always seems pretty lousy because of the compression used.

Re: 40TH ANNIVERSARY Tribute Video SPECIAL EDITION

There are quite a few minor differences here and there. The trailer opens with the camera going to warp through the Paramount logo. I suppose they're still responsible for the film arm of the franchise and I wanted to include that, since the old mountain's been the mainstay on all the Trek film, video & DVD releases over the years. ;)

There are some timing differences, so most of the crossfades now fit a note change in the music. Several of the clips differ from the original too.

The image of Major Hayes is a different take and the drone ships have been replaced with the sexier looking prequel Romulan BoP. TOS section now features a shot of the original BoP, Kirk & Spock in Chicago gang outfits, McCoy scanning a horta, Spock, and Kirk, McCoy and Scotty in a lineup from 'Spectre of the Gun'. The refitted 1701 in drydock is from a different angle than before and there's a shot of Enterprise and Reliant in the Mutara. Kirk and Bones in the Klingon Courtroom appears and later the dying Kirk is now replaced by a shot of him on horseback in the Nexus.

In the series' crossover section at the end, the fading between three shots of an Original Series bridge is now smoother. So it flows between the Defiant from 'In a Mirror, Darkly' to Kirk stepping on to the bridge from 'This Side of Paradise', then to a ghostly fade of Scotty looking around from 'Relics'. That was particularly tricky to blend in the edit.

Re: 40TH ANNIVERSARY Tribute Video SPECIAL EDITION

Just viewed the mp4 version. It seems a bit better than the mmv.

Anyway, I can't say enough about the video. It gets better after each viewing.

Re: 40TH ANNIVERSARY Tribute Video SPECIAL EDITION

I've decided to enter the video in Creation's Music Video Contest in time for their London Convention. So I'll see how that goes.

My thanks to Sebastiaan, who's very kindly offered to host the video over at Final Frontier Media.

Feel free to drop by and take a look, especially this great DS9 one called In Caelum Fero.

Very nice. Wasn't this in another forum? I seem to remember commenting on it somewhere else here...or maybe I'm losing my mind.

Thanks. No, no. You're not...(well, as far as I can tell. :p) You commented a few pages back.

I did some digging to add an update, that's all.

Re: 40TH ANNIVERSARY Tribute Video SPECIAL EDITION

Awesome piece of work. Bittersweet, as it made me reflect on the 40 years of my life and how Trek has been with me on the whole journey. Made me tear up. My heartfelt thanks.

Re: 40TH ANNIVERSARY Tribute Video SPECIAL EDITION

A few pages back? There's only 2 pages in this thread.

^ Could just be my Windows setup because there are 4 pages in mine. You must do a whole lot of scrolling.

Re: 40TH ANNIVERSARY Tribute Video SPECIAL EDITION

I see this excellent work has been updated and it was clearly very popular first time. Gonna pin this for a while. :)

This video embodied all of Star Trek perfectly. Beautifully done and really made my eyes fill up. It's just all done to perfection.

The part that really brought me to tears was when Picard walked onto the bridge at the start of TNG's sequence. TNG is just such a great series.

Chris, I'm wondering about one thing. If you mentioned this, sorry for me not seeing it. Why aren't the TNG films alongside with the series like the TOS films are?

Just wondering. ;)

Other than that, well-done!

^ Cheers. When I first played around with editing the tribute, it was in strict timeline order. I quickly realized that wasn't going to work. Mixing character shots from DS9 and VGR with bits of TNG films looked even more confusing. So it seemed natural to link the series with crossover shots of the Enterprise-D at DS9 and then later Voyager leaving the station. That flow just seemed to work. While I have mixed feelings about Nemesis, it seemed right to leave that until the end, with First Contact & Insurrection coming before it. The crossovers bit I actually enjoyed editing the most. I've always got a kick out of seeing the torch being passed between cast members.

Sorry to be a Late Larry to this topic but to be honest, I do not think I have the power to adequately describe how beautiful the video is. It is just, shall I say, pulls the strings of every Star Trek fans hearts. :) Thank you so very much Christopher Pike.
