what they may do is recast kirk, spock, McCoy, uhura, sulu, chekov again with 20s something actors.
No, goddamn it. Enough is enough. If you're going to bring them back, wait at least a couple of decades. It's time for something new.

I think TNG is where to go if we do another reboot. Maybe return to the TOS characters in a decade or so. My favorite idea still in this regard is something dealing with young Picard. The beauty of young Picard is it allows you to also create a whole new set of characters around him making it more fresh than just doing TNG part 2.

The Original series was THE massive phenomena ,shown in the UK at a time when there where only three channels, so the audience was absolutely massive, the spin offs are multi channel era niche interest,
and for me don't have a patch of the panache of the original.
that's why the films have to be based on the Original series.

TOS was never massive. It was cancelled after three seasons for a reason. TNG was way more popular in its day.

Many actors have played Hamlet so I don't have a problem with a new actors playing Kirk or Spock. However much of the success of the original movies was based on the chemistry between Shatner, Nimoy, and Kelly established on TOS. So I don't know if it helps the franchise to keep redoing those characters with actors who can never compete with that original chemistry.

If they want to keep with Kirk and Spock fine but do a big budget version of Star Trek: New Voyages instead of inserting the characters into dopey, artless, big budget sci-fi action flicks.

I don't see how recasting kirk and spock etc will help things. They've got a great, young-ish cast right here ready to go if the word is given.

I'd give them one more shot, or move forward with something entirely different and new.

I think the current cast is fine, and they deserve another shot. They just need a good script and a director like Ridley Scott or Denis Villenueve.

I think Hawley's comments point to a cheaper version of Star Trek, if they move forward. We will be dealing with largely unknown actors locked into low dollar contracts for multiple films. Pretty much 2009 all over again. But this time with the budget reined in.

The story should be about New Vulcan, and the tribulations of this new frontier for Vulcans. I don't want to see a time travel film for the cast because it would resemble TVH and I think the movies has done enough of this ripping off themes thing. Another thing, I don't believe the movie requires another Khan-esque super baddie, I would like the writer and producers to just tell a tale of adventure and fun.

Which I don't have a problem with, as long as we're given something new and fresh, I just don't see the appetite for recasting kirk and co again, star trek is not as popular as spiderman or batman.

I think throwing the best part of 200m at another effects heavy blockbuster will potentially result in big losses. Maybe an original, smaller, character/suspense/sci fi driven story that's a critical hit can build to something more in future films.

Could be a decent premise. Keep it in the same universe but spin it off in another way, hell you could even have cameos from the kelvin cast.

I hate to be that guy but I know they're unofficial but we've had Phase II and Continues 'completing' the five year mission; plus the IDW comic Year Five and 3 JJ films

I feel since Enterprise ended the Five Year Mission has been done to death. Time to move on.

Is the correct answer.

Well, yeah - that's doubtful at this stage isn't it? As far as we know the kelvin series is dead in the water.
Whaaat??? So the logical move would be to have Disco transition to the theatres since the show has a movie appearance to them anyway? There's enough subscribers according to CBS for those viewers to launch a 3 picture movie deal and with good word of mouth general audiences may follow. Disco feels more like JJTrek than the impossible to swallow BS it's in TOS universe.

I have suggested going down the discovery route before but that's not what I'm implying here. The rumours - and that's all they are, point to something different without the kelvin cast.

Don't get me wrong, I love the kelvin series, and I'd very much like to see another movie with this cast, but it's looking unlikely, which is a shame as the cast is one of the strongest aspects of these three films in my opinion. If beyond had made another 100m we'd probably have already had a fourth film in theatres last summer.
