No I don't want something new.!!!!!!!
It has to be based on the original series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Preferably with the brilliant cast of the last three films!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it as always going to be something new. what they may do is recast kirk, spock, McCoy, uhura, sulu, chekov again with 20s something actors.

Howley's movie Lucy In The Sky just did dismal numbers at the box office and was too critically panned to get too excited about the possibility of him doing a Trek movie. Although Hawley's words about preferring substance over action does pique my interest. I haven't seen Legion, but I've seen every season of Fargo and I love it. If the Hawley project was transformed into a straight-to-streaming movie, or even limited series/miniseries, THAT would be something that would interest me.

Or we can belive Midnight Edgey and its all going tits up.. HA HAHAHA... ugh..

To be fair, that’s a pretty safe bet.

We’ve had the original fourth Kelvin film fall over not once but twice, Tarantino seemingly walk away from his Trek project and now we have a film which is yet to be cast, written and directed by someone whose only film was a massive critical and commercial bomb.

It hardly bodes well.

I would love to see another Kelvinverse movie but I am game to see his movie and this, return to form type of movie that isn't just a fun action movie. To me this even makes sense and if you add his love for surrealism made we would be looking at a Trek version of "Interstellar" which is both kind of grounded, character driven but also weird some weird space stuff as well. Heck we even see that in "Lucy" especially when think about the ending of the movie.

Some cents:

1) From his words I don't get the vibe he wants to recast and get new versions of kirk&co. He said that new characters usually means new cast, but he doesn't know yet if the current cast is involved TOO. Translation? (Maybe) it might be a spin off about new characters but if it's the kelvin timeline still, he doesn't exclude, yet, that kirk&co could make an appearance. Probably not all of them. Think about the Pirates of the Caribbean movies after the third one? Spock or someone else could be the new Jack Sparrow lol
2) He also mentioned being a fan of tng, so I instantly got the feeling he maybe wants to make a movie about the kelvin version of that series since we got the tos characters already.

As for the rest, I take the whole 'I want to get back to trek's core elements and have more story than action blah blah blah ' with a grain of salt because beyond's team was saying the same thing. They all say the same thing they know trek fans want to hear. (JJ also cares about story and characters more than action scenes and explosions, anyone who knows him as a writer before he did trek and star wars knows that or they are unfair) The reality is different because you have to meet the expectations of a genre still and what the studio wants. I'd prefer these guys give us a movie first and let it speak for itself, before making promises they may not be able to keep.

However, he admits that's it's all early stages and he doesn't have a script yet nor a real deal with the studio.
Judging from the patterns, this once again means Paramount has nothing real yet.

I like what I've seen from Hawley and would give him a shot with the Kelvin crew, but I'd prefer something fresh, preferably without recasting any classic TV show characters be it TOS, TNG or whatever.

I like everything he said. It would be refreshing to get a Trek movie without a villain who is trying to destroy Earth or Federation. A movie with completely new characters sounds good too, but it is not easy to do. I haven't seen his other stuff (Fargo, etc). Hopefully he can pull it off.

It seems like the powers that be are just fumbling about until something sticks that piques people's interest. It wouldn't surprise me if this latest rumour is replaced by another at this point.

Development hell indeed.

I have a feeling that whatever this director was told initially, he will be expected to tie it into one of the two Trek universes come game time. Part of the reason CBS were pushing for the merger was allegedly so that they could get control of the movie side of the franchise again, and bring it all back together, so I find it unlikely the first film put out would be unconnected to any timeline previously established?

If this movie does end up happening, I really hope it's either a Kelvin continuation or something brand new with an original cast of characters and new ship, etc. Just my personal opinion...but I'm having trouble mustering up any kind of excitement whatsoever at the notion of another reboot with another recast Kirk & co.

Yeah, it just needs Pike, Spock and the Enterprise.;)

Replace Younger Picard with Pike and this might be a good idea. How about this premise. It's set 30 or years in the future of the Kelvinverse. Young Captain Picard takes command of the Enterprise B or C. Not sure which one but it doesn't matter because they can go with a whole new design. This is his first command but Admiral or retired Admiral Spock is along for the ride. They encounter a mind bending mystery that can be a very dangerous threat to the Federation or a key towards learning something truly amazing about the Universe. The conflict is what to do about it. Maybe the Carddisians also get involved for some more danger but the main thrust of the story is a conflict between Picard and Spock. Also maybe Data is part of this as well and he has just been discoverd and isn't in Starfleet but has been living alone on his colony for years after all the humans were killed by the Crystaline Entity. Also Data is female and Soong modeled Data after his wife instead of himself in this universe. Maybe Jack Crusher is first officer and dies in the movie. Could also involve Q. Maybe that is what they find. Away into the Q continuum were of course you can have tons of Legion style trippy stuff happen.

“To call it Star Trek 4 is kind of a misnomer. I have my own take on the franchise as a life-long fan.”

Hawley went on to namecheck Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn in his interview with THR as being his touchstone for the new project.

“It's William Shatner putting on his reading glasses and lowering Kahn's shields, which cost like $9.50. There's no big action sequence. He's just more clever,” he said.

“There's something really uplifting about that feeling. I went to Paramount and just had my own ideas for what I wanted to do with it. So that's the direction that I'm going in. It's still very early days, so I can't really be more specific. But it's going to be different.”

Sounds promising to me.

I hope the studio and Chris Pine work out their differences; I strongly believe Pine should be paid what he was promised and not asked to take a pay cut. If the studio doesn't wish to honor the deal they made then cast new faces. I wouldn't mind seeing a young version of Trek, maybe with new characters and in a new era.
