I hope the new Trek film will be something really new. New crew, new ship, new adventures... It's been 10 years since the first Kelvin movie. It's old now.
They could easily make QTs Trek to fit in with kelvinverse, if it hasn't alreadyUhm no. I don't know what the legion guy wants to do, but it makes no sense for me that Tarantino would be the one making a sequel when he admits he doesn't get or care about the basic stuff in the source material (= canon) of kelvin trek and what makes it....kelvin trek. ^ That's as illogical as asking a football player to play a tennis game. It would make more sense for Tarantino, if anything, to make his own spin off not really linked to either trek.
I think in a normal universe, it's the director who should be a good fit for the thing they are working for, thus adapt himself, not the other way around. They could easily make QTs Trek to fit in with kelvinverse, if it hasn't already
Agreed which is why Abrams got so much push back and why I push back against Tarantino. Everyone wants to kowtow to Tarantino without bother to ask if it is a good fit.I think in a normal universe, it's the director who should be a good fit for the thing they are working for, thus adapt himself, not the other way around.
We have the box office failures of Bumblebee,Terminator and Gemini Man to get the lead out of their pants to make this happen. Hawley seems to have a very vivid imagination so I am expecting something like a even better version of The Motion Picture. Anthing from a visit by Q to a visit to Talos could be possible. Jason
"To call it Star Trek IV is kind of a misnomer. I have my own take on the franchise as a life-long fan," Hawley told The Hollywood Reporter podcast TV’s Top 5, in an interview set to bow in April.
Asked if the film would involve a new cast, he responded, "Yeah, I think so. Yeah."
Pressed if anyone from the cast last seen in 2016's Star Trek Beyond would return, Hawley added, "It's early days. I don't know. But new characters often involve new cast."

hawley's being super diplomatic and cagey but it's pretty clear this isn't actually a kelvin timeline film.Update

(doesn't sound like its as ahead as the Tarantino project was/is?)
Sounds like the Kelvin cast is done unless the Tarantino movie happens (with some other director)hawley's being super diplomatic and cagey but it's pretty clear this isn't actually a kelvin timeline film.
So glad we'll be getting something new and fresh. The Kelvin timeline is old. This movie will see the light of day in 2022 at the earliest. By that time Star Trek (2009) is 13 (!) years old. No more Spock and Kirk or Enterprise for the movies. New characters, new ships, aliens etc. Less action, more talking.
Dark Phoenix mustve been a warning to Paramount (or any studio) continuing with a cast of a huge franchise when the last entry underperformed/made little impact with audiences (could totally see the Hemsworth ST4 having done XDP box office)As much as I'd love to see another movie with the Kelvin cast, I fear you are correct and I'm forced to agree. I just don't see how they can make bank any more, they squandered their opportunity to do so years ago, and I get the feeling another expensive Kelvin movie at this point will go the same way as X-Men Dark Phoenix - another franchise that's squandered the good will of it's audience.
Like it or loath it maybe Discovery has shown that the present day Trek of this era doesn't really need Kirk, Spock, the Enterprise in the main lead roles to carry the franchise (unlike in 09 when going back to Kirk, Spock, NCC1701 was like the last roll of the dice for the franchise) so might Par. be willing to risk a non K/S movie now.. (also Spock being recast for Disco might make going back to Quinto feel abit weird)So glad we'll be getting something new and fresh. The Kelvin timeline is old. and re QT Trek if the rumours were to be believed (Generations meets Avengers)..itd be a 90! year old Shatner (unless it would've been CG deage thing), PStew (who is currently doing his own thing with Picard), and the kelvin cast (playing the TOS versions?!) in Treks 1st R rated movie? plus QT probably never intended to direct it (or if he did then hes seemingly changed his mind) so the cast including Shat/Stew probably be like 'oh wait hes not actually directing?'.. so Par. probably been scratching their heads as to how all that could work (that being said id still love to see that crazy movie happen!)
