STAR TREK 4 BACK ON! Noah Hawley to write and direct

Didn't Wrath of Khan have a budget of 11 million dollars?

Anyway there is a huge middle ground between a Joker budget and an Avengers budget, if last movie lost money due to a giant budget, shouldn't they go with a smaller budget this time?
As with most things in Hollywood it depends on the project.

Gods I hop they just do something to improve on that gawd-awful Enterprise-A design that for some reason looks like a raw plucked chicken from above to me.

Please...refit the heck out of that sucker. Those nacelle struts are *awful*! What was even the point of paring down the nacelle struts on the original Kelvinverse 1701 for Beyond...then the add ones to the next iteration of the ship that are even larger and wider than the ones on the original!? Those things are hideous!

And what is it with that tiny little shuttle bay...???

The whole thing just looks awful. At least the original Kelvinverse ship grew on me after a while. This hasn't.

Another question:

In Kelvinverse Star Trek 4 - how do you think that they should explain Chekov's absence? Death? Transfer? Promotion?

Whatever they do, PLEASE for the love of God DO NOT RE-CAST THE PART!!!

And do you think they should introduce a new crew/cast member to take his place?

I think that since the TOS crew has only one woman on it, they should introduce a female character to man OPs. Actually, I think Jaylah from Beyond would be a *great* addition to the crew!

Or maybe introduce a very young Kelvinverse version of Saavik? (Thou to be honest, Saavik and Jaylah are very very similar characters, imho.)

Or maybe we could go with a re-cast version of Yeoman Rand? I mean, you still have the very young and inexperienced crew member dynamic that you have with Chekov. And maybe this time the character can do more than get coffee for Kirk.

I wanted to see Nurse Chapel...but apparently (according to Chapel) she had to report Kirk to human resources and post a #metoo on the subspace internet, because nuKirk was a sleezeball to her. (Something that really pissed me off about Into Darkness. Well, *one* of the things that pissed me off about that movie.) Maybe she could come back as Doctor Chapel, like she did in TMP...?

I know we won't, but since the crew is just filled out know with (mostly) nameless extras, I would love to see some more TOS and Animated series names pop up, even if it's just in the background and the character with a few lines. How about an Arex (you could CGI this character very easily these days). Or how about an M'Ress? Maybe a Dr. M'Benga helping out McCoy (since in the '09 movie they implied that the Enterprise has more than one doctor - in fact, a whole medical staff!)

And since we have random background characters in all the movies anyway, could there be one named Kyle manning the transporter? And maybe a Kevin O'Riley assisting in engineering? We *already have* background crew already running around everywhere...mosrt are nameless, but some have names...so just name some after TOS supporting crew.

Frankly, I was hoping that someday we would get to find out what happened to Carol Marcus. (When she and Kirk split up - assuming that they ever even really got together - was maybe she pregnant...?

But since this is likely to be the final Kelvinverse film with the original crew, we may never find out. I had a feeling that when they were planning the original version of 4 with Kirk's dad, they would probably incorporate Kirk finding out that he was a dad as well.

But speaking of this being the last Kelvinverse picture...where do you think they should go next?

A Kelvinverse version of The Next Generation perhaps?

Or a totally new Kelvinverse crew & ship/space station.

Or just ditch the Kelvinverse completely and go with new characters in the Prime timeline. Maybe in the Star Trek Picard era? (My only problem is that by the end of Voyager, Starfleet and the Federation tech had become so powerful and advanced that it was almost magic. Well, part of that was bad writing on Voyager, where they just technobabbled their way out of ever (technobabble caused) problem. They just reversed to polarity of the wrap plasma and used it to shoot a phased tetrion beam out of the deflector dish into the subspace inversion rift to close the quantum...blah...blah...blah...and everything was solved!

I can see the appeal of pre-TOS prequels like Enterprise and Discovery, because they can avoid all of that super-tech nonsense.

I like the idea of a rebooted Janice Rand.

Me too. We get a 2nd female crew member. She would be young like Chekov...talented, but just learning to ropes on a real starship.

I don't even mind if they made her starstruck on Kirk...even have a little crush on him like the original Rand did in TOS.

Just don't go anywhere creepy with it. No scenes with Kirk being a letch and hitting on her (especially since she's still a teen if I am not mistaken). And no seems of her stripping down to bra and panties in front of him. She just looks up to him and wants to be like him and has a perfectly normal crush on him, that would be fine.

As long as she's her own woman.

They would have to jump about thirty years ahead as Valeris is just a Lieutenant graduating from the Academy in 2293.
But this is a different timeline. Pretty sure that opens the door for them to do what they want. Maybe she’s on the ship as a cadet. Who knows.

With all the speculation about maybe recasting Chekov, why not recast Hemsworth since the original script seemed to involve his character to a significant degree? How much does the general audience even remember about Hemsworth being in that role for a few minutes in '09 Trek? In terms of name-recognition, it probably would've helped to have him, but there are plenty of other actors who could've stepped in before making major changes to the script.

That would be how I would do it. I see no reason to complicate it.

But, it will probably get complicated.

Might as well do Kelvinverse Saavik in that case.
might as well get Kelsey Grammer on board and have the Bozeman finally find a way back to their time, only to find they're in the Kelvinverse with their own Pseudo-Saavik

Interesting that the Deadline article refers to Tarantino Trek as a Star Trek spinoff. We know that QT has said he doesn't like the timeline change that was done in Kelvin movies, so maybe he is going to get his own timeline and maybe his own characters.

They should let him do whatever he wants. He did create his own timeline in Inglourious Basterds with the ending of that movie.
