Based on the Star Trek ongoing comic the NuUniverse is pretty much the same as the Prime Universe with a couple of minor changes (no Vulcan, Amanda, etc). It's what the Prime Universe looks like if you squint as opposed to something new and different.
And you've made that judgement on: precisely one issue of IDW's new comic series. I don't expect these tie-in comics to show too many differences because JJ's team doesn't want to spoil too much for their upcoming movie(s).
Actually no. I'm making it based on exactly one (1) movie. I haven't read or even seen the actual comic except for a picture of the cover and a brief synopsis telling how they're retelling old stories with the new cast. I assume that gary Mitchell, Elizabeth Dehnner, the marker buoy from teh Valiant and the energy barrier make apperances but other than that I don't know what they're doing in the comic.
I'm basing my comment on the writers explanation for how everyone came together regardless of all the coincidences as being the universe trying to make things as they were. I'm assuming that they don't intend to stay too far from the classic Trek mold.
You're free to take the comic as gospel as much as you like.
