Spoilers ST Picard - Starships and Technology Season Two Discussion

The Stargazer's true comissioning date is classified, due to reasons that can not and MUST not ever be mentioned in an episode.

Also I'd assume every piece of the Enterprise and all of its contents would be removed, to prevent its technology from being acquired by others, especially that pre-warp planet nearby. Picard doesn't need to carry all his Naiskos himself, he's got ensigns to do that for him!

I can dig that. Corroboration of this would be looking at the corresponding display for the Excelsior and seeing that she was in service from 2285, or after her own extensive refit in 2290-ish. Or a typo and the Stargazer was REALLY commissioned in 2306? :)

I know you're being tongue-in-cheek, but 2306 is still a pretty late date for the Stargazer's commissioning, since its contemporary the Hathaway was commissioned in 2285.

She definitely looks like a ship from the 2270s or 2280s.

Agreed. Although the only ship design lineages we're aware of from the 2300's to roughly the 2350's are the Excelsior, Miranda, Oberth and Ambassador classes, as we've never seen another kind of design on screen from that time period.

I've also taken a closer look at the painting of the Enterprise-D in Picard's (new?) study - and it's the same one as he had in his old ready room, or meant to be. This makes me wonder what the process is of salvage on crashed ships? Picard only stopped to grab his family book (also I believe in his study now) on his way out of "Generations".
The D wreck becomes a problem as soon as the neighboring planet invents telescopes and space probes...

I would assume that the ready room painting is a reproduction, replicated, and not the original.

As for the wreckage of the Enterprise, I'm pretty sure Starfleet would have sent a couple ships to do a full clean-up operation and salvage every last bit of the ship for prime directive, pre-contact reasons. Maybe three California class ships! I would go on to assume they would take the time to re-landscape the crash site so there would be no chance for future Viridians to find anything.

That would be a great LDS episode!
