Spoilers ST Lower Decks - Starships and Technology Season Two Discussion

- So the Cerritos has internal security cameras and records... EVERYTHING, including innocuous records of conversations between Mariner and Ransom? Or maybe it was just what was on Mariner's PADD that AGIMUS accessed? Or AGIMUS just made that up based on a record it accessed?

Might well be everything is recorded in detail - but, as per TOS already, accessing the records is nigh-impossible for the crew, both to hinder tampering and to preserve privacy. Thus, no whodunnit is ever solved by last night's tapes, because at best a high-ranking officer can use his privileges to access a specific bit, say, the feed from a specific camera('ish doodad): he or she can't even do a search.

AGIMUS would have an edge there in being able to bypass privileges and blocks and do all the evil rummaging it wants...

- As concerning as it is that there are dozens of evil computers that Starfleet ALONE has managed to defeat / capture / retrieve for study in Okinawa, it's even MORE strange how they're all about the same size and shape as most 21st century desktop gaming rigs.

...Wouldn't that be just a Starfleet thing - the evil computers being software, which Starfleet imprisons in porta-brigs of a standard design?

Perhaps, but then I'd wonder why they didn't trim its data tentacle things, or at least put them in cable management tie wraps like everyone else?

Might be a standard in AI development accidentally arrived at by multiple cultures across the galaxy...? You'll notice there's design variation across those dozens of casings.

1980'/90's Macintosh style box with different logos on the front and tentacle ports of some sort.

Might have been the civilian standard for decades already for all we know. Starfleet just prefers communal versions, for the same reason militaries prefer communal accommodation, hygiene, training etc.

Apparently so. Or they wouldn't be classed as "AI".

Dogs can be divided to intelligent and stupid, and both types eventually artificially imitated. AS might be its own category altogether...

But Starfleet is likely to reserve this sort of attention to machines or programs that are clever enough to demand asylum or a lawyer. (Or perhaps it shoots those to pieces outright, and jails those stupid enough never to ask?)

Tech from Lower Decks (set in 2380-81) is now available in STO (2409-2411), including the Parliament-class surveyor and Shaxs's handheld phaser cannon.

As an indirect reference, a trio of Exocomps appearing in the mission "Operation: Wolf" have Lower Decks-style humorous personalities. Those new guys are Acid Burn, Zero Cool and Cereal Killer. In the same mission, Admiral Jorel Quinn of Terran Empire Starfleet also relies on the portable phaser cannon.

In the mission "Firewall", you encounter the mirror!Exocomp Legume Creel. A legume is a type of peanut and a creel is a type of basket. Get it? :rommie:

Btw, Pakleds have been a playable Starfleet species for years. I like to think that continued exposure to the Federation led to some Pakleds joining Starfleet, similarly to Klingons, Ferengi, Cardassians and Bajorans in the 24th century.

Somebody shook season 2, and all the crew tumbled into ‘I, Excretus’!!!

27-ish new human faces and 7 NAMES for some of them! (Plus memory alpha lists
Pon Darra & Vaarza who I haven’t identified?) A beautiful shot of a huge crew gathering proving “Conga Line Blind Engineer” has a VISOR-ed identical twin/cousin/clone! My rough count has Cerritos crew complement at 279-ish and climbing. By the profits, do I heart this show.

Love that Jennier sh'Reyan has a TrekLit-like Andorian name.
